Wolfgang Hesse has filed for patents to protect the following inventions. This listing includes patent applications that are pending as well as patents that have already been granted by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).

  • Patent number: 4025479
Abstract: Sulfuric acid compounds are removed from reaction mixtures by a reaction with polybutadiene alone or combined with unsaturated terpene compounds at elevated temperatures whereby products of reduction are formed which are volatilizable at the temperature of reaction and by expelling said products of reduction from the reaction mixture. Thus a product being substantially free from a sulfur content is obtained.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 16, 1975
Date of Patent: May 24, 1977
    Assignee: Hoechst Aktiengesellschaft
Inventors: Albert Jung, Johannes Reese, Kurt Hultzsch, Wolfgang Hesse
  • Patent number: 4013605
Abstract: A process for the preparation of a flexible phenolic resin which comprises co-condensing a dimethylol phenol, substituted by an alkyl group having from 1 to 20 carbon atoms, with a methylol derivative of a polyfunctional phenol in which derivative at least half of the reactive hydrogen atoms in the polyfunctional phenol are substituted by methylol groups and wherein the ratio of the methylol groups of the derivative of the polyfunctional phenol per mol of the dimethylolalkyl phenol is from 1.4:1 to 6:1, a phenolic resin prepared by said process, a coating composition containing said phenolic resin and an article coated with or comprising said phenolic resin.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: December 8, 1970
Date of Patent: March 22, 1977
    Assignee: Hoechst Aktiengesellschaft
Inventors: Kurt Hultzsch, Wolfgang Hesse, Hans-Dieter Mummenthey
  • Patent number: 4010163
Abstract: A new process for the preparation of hardenable phenolic resins which are substantially free from unreacted phenol and unreacted formaldehyde and which liberate at most only trace quantities of formaldehyde on hardening comprises reacting novolaks containing methylene bridges which are substantially free from unreacted phenol with formaldehyde in the presence of from 0.15 to 1 equivalent (based on the number of phenolic hydroxy groups) of a basic catalyst at 20.degree. to 70.degree. C. The phenolic resin products may be used wherever conventional phenolic resins have previously been used, an important application being the preparation of aqueous emulsions for use as coating materials and impregnating agents.

    Assignee: Hoechst Aktiengesellschaft
    Inventors: Wolfgang Hesse, Paul Jacobi
  • Patent number: 3988386
Abstract: A process for the preparation of light color, odor free novolaks which have high melting points, high condensation levels, good solubility and uniform compositions which comprises reacting in at least one stage a) at least one alkyl-free phenol, b) at least one condensation product of formaldehyde and at least one alkyl phenol, the said condensation product containing at least one member selected from the group consisting methylol groups and methylene ether linkages, and c) less than one mole of formaldehyde calculated on the basis of the total number of moles of phenol and alkyl phenol present and including the formaldehyde already present in the alkyl phenol-formaldehyde condensation product, in the presence of an acid catalyst, such that the ratio of the product of (moles of alkyl phenol .times. number of carbon atoms in the alkyl radicals of the alkyl phenol)/(the total molar number of phenolic hydroxy groups in the starting materials) is from (0.6 to 1.

    Assignee: Hoechst Aktiengesellschaft
    Inventors: Wolfgang Hesse, Gisbert Moller
  • Patent number: 3979218
Abstract: A cement composition yielding alkaline-resistant bonds consisting of a mixture of a) a solution of at least one partially etherified methylol phenol and at least one partially etherified methylol alkylphenol in a solvent, the methylol phenol components having at least two positions reactive with formaldehyde and being free of alkaline catalysts used in their preparation, with b) a cement powder containing an acid catalyst, an acid-hardened, alkali-resistant cement obtained therefrom by curing and the process of their preparations.
