  • Patent number: 11397693
Abstract: The invention relates to a peripheral device for communicating with a host and for controlling a controlled device, to a system including such peripheral device and at least the controlled device and to a corresponding method including a communication and a controlling. In order to allow for a possibility for upgrading controlled devices with further functionality during their service life at low initial costs or efforts on the side of the controlled devices, it is provided for an interconnection between a portion of the system using a complex standard and another portion of the system not using such standard by means of the peripheral device having a dual purpose, as a peripheral device to the standard compliant host and as a controlling device to the controlled device. In both cases, however, power is provided to the peripheral device from either the host or from the controlled device.

  • Patent number: 8324826
Abstract: The invention relates to composing a lighting atmosphere from an abstract description for example a lighting atmosphere specified in XML, wherein the lighting atmosphere is generated by several lighting devices, by automatically rendering the desired lighting atmosphere from the abstract description. The abstract description describes the type of light with certain lighting parameters desired at certain semantic locations at certain semantic times. This abstract atmosphere description is automatically transferred to a specific instance of a lighting system (14, 16, 18). The invention has the main advantage that it allows to create light scenes and lighting atmospheres at a high level of abstraction without requiring the definition of a lighting atmosphere or scene by setting the intensity, color, etc. for single lighting units or devices which can be very time consuming and cumbersome, particularly with large and complex lighting systems comprising many lighting devices.

  • Patent number: 8249462
Abstract: A lighting system and a method of operating the lighting system are described. A plurality of lighting units (10, 10?) each comprise, a lighting element (12) with a lighting control unit (14) for controlling its light output, and a communication unit (16, 16?) for communicating over a communication medium, e.g. RF or power line communication. The units (10, 10?) further have an optical receiver (18) for receiving light from other lighting units (10, 10?). A controller unit (20) is connected to the optical receiver (18), the communication unit (16, 16?) and the lighting control unit (14). In order to allow easy, automated set-up, at least in a configuration phase, the lighting units (10, 10?) send information by operating the lighting elements (12) in a modulated manner, and this information is received by a further lighting unit (10, 10?) observing the generated light.

  • Patent number: 8104921
Abstract: The present invention relates to a daylight deflection system including an arrangement of louvers (5) which are aligned and formed to block daylight impinging from an outer side (3) at higher angles of incidence with respect to a horizontal direction (19), to deflect daylight impinging from the outer side (3) at lower angles of incidence with respect to the horizontal direction (19) towards an indoor ceiling, and to allow visual transmission in at least the horizontal direction (19). In this deflection system OLED's (8) or optical light guides (16) coupled to LED's (17) are attached to or integrated in the louvers (5), said OLED's (8) or light guides (16) being microstructured at a surface to deflect the daylight toward the indoor sealing.
