  • Patent number: 5439953
Abstract: Disclosed are materials and/or shaped articles based on a starch which has been thermomechanically digested at elevated pressures and temperatures and with the addition of water and/or lower molecular weight plasticizing agents, said starch containing thermoplastic synthetic polymer compounds in an at least largely homogeneous mixture. The materials and/or shaped articles according to the invention are characterized in that their contents of synthetic thermoplastic polymer compounds is derived from aqueous polymer dispersions comprising a disperse polymer phase in an aqueous phase and that the synthetic thermoplastic polymer compounds have been incorporated in the starch in combination with the aqueous phase in such a manner that the starch digestion has been effected by the concomitant use of the aqueous phase of the polymer dispersions.

  • Patent number: 5210281
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for the production of pure, substantially neutral, low-volatility organic compounds containing reactive olefinic double bonds from starting materials which contain these components together with small quantities of acidic reaction constituents and/or corresponding auxiliaries in the liquid phase by neutralization and separation of the salts formed. The process according to the invention is characterized in that, to obtain pure products which combine low residual acid values with low color standard numbers, even without distillation, the neutralization is carried out as dry neutralization using solid, finely powdered oxides, carbonates and/or hydroxides of the alkali and/or alkaline earth metals, if desired together with other insoluble basic metal oxide compounds, and the organic liquid phase is subsequently separated from the finely powdered solid phase. The oxides and/or hydroxides of calcium and/or magnesium are preferably used for neutralization.

  • Patent number: 5195806
Abstract: A rear brake pressure proportioning control device is disclosed, with a regulating piston (7) and with a valve closing member (9) being supported within a slidable control piston (8), the movement of the control piston interrupted at a predetermined rate of vehicle deceleration. A restriction (32) between the inlet and inlet chamber within which the control piston is disposed prevents a high rate of brake pressure increase from causing too high a rear brake pressure. A multiple-stage restrictor (26) is positioned in the inlet in order to prevent a very high rate of pressure increase of the brake pressure resulting in too low a rear brake pressure.

  • Patent number: 5035186
Abstract: On a table (10), a support element (14, 15) is provided on the table leg (13) and below the tabletop (11). This support element is pivotable about the vertical axis of the table leg (13). When the support element (14, 15) is pivoted outward, it can serve as a support for a tabletop (21) and is formed accordingly. The tabletop (21) has an elongated engagement element (24) on its underside, which element upon connection positively engages the inside of a corresponding elongated recess (23) of the support element (14, 15). A table connection formed in this way is very stable, and makes it possible for the thus-formed table arrangement to be moved about practically like a rigid unit. Also, it is possible for a single person without additional help, using this connection device, to couple one table (10) to an adjacent tabletop (21).

  • Patent number: 4920090
Abstract: A new method of forming agglomerates of fine powdered solids comprises dispersing the powder in a chemically inert carrier liquid that also contains a dissolved binder precursor polymer with cyclic dicarboxylic acid anhydride groups on the polymer chain. The dispersion is shaped and then brought into contact with a second carrier liquid that contains polyamines. The polyamines react with the anhydride groups on the other polymer to form an insoluble binder polymer that hardens the shaped dispersion. The hardened shape can then be separated from the liquids and/or further reacted if desired to produce amide bonds in the final agglomerates. The method is useful for forming mechanically and thermally stable agglomerates of such materials as activated carbon, metals dispersed on catalyst carriers, etc.
