  • Patent number: 9178985
Abstract: An apparatus for and method of encapsulating Ethernet frames over a Very high speed Digital Subscriber Line (VDSL) transport facility. The VDSL frames are transmitted over a point to point VDSL link where they are subsequently extracted and forwarded as standard Ethernet frames. The VDSL facility transport system comprises an Ethernet to VDSL Customer Premises Equipment (CPE) coupled to a DSL Access Multiplexor (DSLAM) over a VDSL transport facility. The Ethernet to VDSL CPE functions to receive a 10BaseT Ethernet signal and encapsulate the Ethernet frame into a VDSL frame for transmission over the VDSL facility. The DSLAM is adapted to receive VDSL frames, extract Ethernet frames therefrom and generate and output a standard Ethernet signal. Ethernet frames are encapsulated within VDSL frames and transmitted on the wire pair without regard to the state of the SOC signals.

  • Patent number: 7286652
Abstract: An apparatus for and a method of audio recording in packet based telephony systems. Using the present invention, the equivalent of four audio channels are recorded utilizing only two recording channels. Each channel recorded comprises the stream of packets generated and transmitted by each endpoint to the other side. The RTP packets include the samples generated by the particular endpoint in addition to the timestamp of the samples received from the other side actually played by the endpoint. The recording device has knowledge of what was played at the other endpoint in order to accurately playback the audio samples generated by and received from the other endpoint. The recording device receives a packet stream containing the audio generated on each endpoint and the timestamp of the packet from the other side that was played on the endpoint. The recording device can reconstruct from this data the audio signal that was actually played on each endpoint.

  • Patent number: 7054376
Abstract: A facility transport system for transporting high speed Ethernet data over digital subscriber lines. The system, referred to as 100BaseS, is capable of transmitting 100 Mbps Ethernet over existing copper infrastructure up to distances of approximately 400 meters. The system achieves bit rates from 25 to 100 Mbps in increments of 25 Mbps with each 25 Mbps increment utilizing a separate copper wire pair. Each pair used provides a bidirectional 25 Mbps link with four copper wire pair connections providing 4×25 Mbps downstream channels and 4×25 Mbps upstream channels. The system utilizes framing circuitry to adapt the 100BaseT input data signal to up to four separate output signals. A DSL Ethernet Port card couples the modem to each twisted pair used. Each DSL Ethernet Port card comprises modem transmitter and receiver circuitry for sending and receiving 100BaseS signals onto twisted pair wires.

  • Patent number: 6417944
Abstract: An ATM switch which utilizes an all optical switching fabric to perform switching functions. The switch is based on fiber optics and Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) technologies. The switch utilizes a centrally located optical switch fabric with multiple distributed interface cards. The switch module comprises an N X N passive star coupler which functions to pass the optical signal input present at any of its input ports to all of its output ports. Each output port has associated with it a unique wavelength. An optical filter set to the wavelength functions to block all wavelengths except for the wavelength associated with that particular output port. The ingress portion of each receive/transmit interface module comprises a tunable optical transmitter that is set to the wavelength corresponding to the desired destination output port.

  • Patent number: 6141126
Abstract: An optical switch utilizing WDM or DWDM techniques for use in both WAN and LAN environments. Each input to the switch is assigned a separate wavelength via a tunable transmitter. The output of the transmitters are input to a star coupler which combines all the optical signals into a single optical output signal. This signal is input to an optical demultiplexor which functions to split the incoming optical signal into a plurality of separate wavelengths with each wavelength steered to a particular output port. The output of each port, corresponding to a particular wavelength, is then converted into an electrical signal by a receiver. Unicast, broadcast and multicast calls are supported. A plurality of unicast connections can be established simultaneously by assigning each tunable transmitter a different wavelength such that all wavelengths are mutually exclusive with each other.

  • Patent number: 6088368
Abstract: The present invention provides a facility transport system for transporting Ethernet over digital subscnber lines. The system, termed 10BaseS, is capable of transmitting 10 Mbps Ethernet over existing copper infrastructure. The system utilizes carrierless amplitude modulation/phase modulation (CAP), a version of suppressed carrier quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM). The 10BaseS transport facility can deliver symmetrical data at approximately 13 Mbps (net 10 Mbps) over the unscreened, twisted pair telephone wires originally intended for bandwidths between 300 Hz and 3.4 KHz. The system utilizes frequency division multiplexing (FDM) to separate downstream channels from upstream channels. FDM is also used to separate both the downstream and upstream channels from POTS signals. The downstream and upstream data channels are separated in frequency from bands used for POTS and ISDN, enabling service providers to overlay 10BaseS on existing services.
