Publication number: 20140162773Abstract: Systems and method for providing a single sign in a gaming console that associates online activity that is out-of-game/cross game, and/or online activity that is in-game, and/or activity that is offline and in-game with that account. While online, a service tracks activity of gamers and provides usage statistics in a profile. While offline, the game console tracks the player's activity via a mechanism to collect detailed information about a specific player's in-game statistics and accomplishments. The offline activity is cached and uploaded when the console connects to the online service. Players can accumulate achievements offline that are credited towards online activities.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 31, 2013Publication date: June 12, 2014Applicant: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Michal Bortnik, Erik John Arthur, James David Macauley, Ling Tony Chen, Yasser B. Asmi, Steven D. Lamb, James N. Helm

Patent number: 7716669Abstract: An operating system architecture that provides a high level of system functionality in a multimedia console through the use of concurrent system applications, while reducing the lack of control that multimedia applications have while running on the console. At power ON, a predetermined amount of system resources are reserved within which the concurrent system applications execute. The multimedia applications are afforded control over the unreserved system resources and do not need to support system functionalities as the concurrent system applications provide system functionalities to end users.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2004Date of Patent: May 11, 2010Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Jeffrey Edward Simon, Jon Marcus Randall Whitten, Yasser B. Publication number: 20090327288Abstract: Arrangements and techniques for enumerating portable device contents via a content management device are discussed herein. The portable device is caused to create and store a first data structure, referred to herein as a portable database, corresponding to the contents of a media library stored thereon. Upon connection to a content management device, the portable database is copied to the content management device, and is used in conjunction with information stored by the content management device in a second data structure, referred to herein as a device content table, to efficiently enumerate and provide other manipulation of the contents of the media library stored on the portable device.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 29, 2008Publication date: December 31, 2009Applicant: MICROSOFT CORPORATIONInventors: Andrew L. Silverman, Yasser B. Asmi, Bruno K. da Costa, Dennis Kiilerich, Jordan B. Naftolin

Patent number: 7627753Abstract: Authenticity of digital data, security policies, and usage of game software are enforced on a game console. When the software is secured prior to distribution on media, a private key is used to encrypt a header digest that includes a digest of each section of the software and information specifying a region, a rating, and media type of the software. A hashing algorithm is applied to produce the digests. On the game console, a public key is used to decrypt the header digest for comparison to a hash of the header. A digest of each section of digital data is computed and compared to the corresponding digest in the header to authenticate the data. The console will not execute the software unless the parameters in the header information match those stored in the console and the computed digests for each section match those in the header on the medium.Type: GrantFiled: March 19, 2002Date of Patent: December 1, 2009Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Jon Marcus Randall Whitten, Tracy Clayton Sharpe, Yasser B. Asmi, Jonathan E. Lange, Christopher Michael Pirich, Jonathan Gerald Thomason

Patent number: 7590779Abstract: A system and method for enabling users and developers to store data on a number of different types of local and remote devices connected to a multimedia console or a gaming console. The range of available storage devices creates issues that are addressed to avoid apparent inconsistencies in storage performance (e.g. latency). A consistent method of reading and writing data is provided such that end users and developers do not have to be concerned with restrictions and limitations inherent to various devices.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 2004Date of Patent: September 15, 2009Assignee: Microsoft CorporationInventors: Gregory A.
