  • Publication number: 20150236974
Abstract: A computer system and a load balancing method dynamically and efficiently balances the load of management servers. An aggregation server receives a task to be executed by a plurality of management servers that manage storage apparatuses divides the received task into a plurality of sub tasks, and sequentially determines the management server with the lowest load as the destination of the sub task. The aggregation sever manages all resources that are used by the plurality of sub tasks that use a common resource as a resource group. When one of the sub tasks has previously been input into the management server that was determined as the input destination of the sub task, one of the sub tasks to use the resource in the resource group is determined as the sub task to be input into that management server.

  • Publication number: 20150193150
Abstract: A storage system management computer stores manager capability information on a task execution capability provided in a plurality of storage managers and management request task management information defining a correspondence relation between a management request regarding a management of the storage system and a task for realizing the management request. Upon receipt of a management request regarding a management of a storage system, the storage system management computer generates a plurality of tasks for realizing the received management request on the basis of management request—task management information. The storage system management computer allocates a predetermined storage manager as a person in charge of executing a task for each of the generated tasks, on the basis of the manager capability information.

  • Patent number: 8706963
Abstract: The present invention provides a configuration which can realize both two objects of prevention of performance deterioration and a reduction in storage management cost and shift a volume to a storage device which supports a hierarchical pool. To provide the configuration, a storage managing system acquires access information indicating an access load to a logical volume in a storage subsystem from a device file in a host server as access information in a page unit. The storage managing system acquires, from a storage subsystem having a hierarchical pool function, information concerning the configuration and a capacity of hierarchies of the storage subsystem. A capacity of the logical volume is calculated from the number of pages and a page unit capacity indicated by the access information.

  • Publication number: 20140058717
Abstract: An example is a simulation method for I/O performance of a volume of a first storage apparatus in a simulation target storage apparatus, including: obtaining an I/O history of a period regarding a first migration source volume in the first storage apparatus; obtaining first information indicating at least intra-volume addresses of cache data of the first migration source volume at start of the period; referring to the first information to determine cache data having addresses in a migration destination volume corresponding to at least some of the intra-volume addresses of the cache data of the first migration source volume and determining the determined cache data as cache data of a first simulation target volume of the simulation target storage apparatus; and issuing simulation-use I/O requests to the first simulation target volume according to the I/O history of the period to measure I/O performance of the first simulation target volume.

  • Patent number: 8589651
Abstract: Each time data is migrated, a management system stores information denoting a migration history related to the migration of the data, in history management information. The management system receives an input of an administrator-desired attribute condition combination for a migration-destination storage device, identifies all device attribute combinations conforming to this attribute condition combination, and calculates multiple migration trends based on each device attribute combination and the history management information. The management system identifies, from among the multiple migration trends, a migration trend to which a specified migration-source storage device belongs, and displays information denoting at least this identified migration trend.

  • Publication number: 20130179636
Abstract: To improve the performance of a computer system and user-friendliness for an administrator. A storage system 30 provides a virtual volume 32 to a host computer 10. Based on an access frequency, the storage system rearranges data in a logical storage region of the virtual volume in any of a plurality of storage tiers. A management computer monitors statuses of resources (the host computer, a switch, a controller of the storage system) related to the virtual volume, and determines to permit or inhibit the execution of a rearrangement process on the virtual volume based on the monitoring result. The management computer notifies the storage system of the details of this determination.

  • Patent number: 7685628
Abstract: An access path management method for a storage network system where a plurality of paths are formed between a data storage system and a host computer which uses the data storage system, an integrated management server monitors port resources constantly. When a port overloads or when a failure occurs in a port, a previously unavailable port is made available and then an access path passing through this port is created to thereby secure a necessary bandwidth. When the load on a port is reduced, an access path that passes through this port is deleted to free a part of the bandwidth, and then the port that is currently in use is invalidated. A license management server for managing how the ports are used, charges by counting in only the length of time during which the port is in use.
