A new medicine can be supplied to an incubator means by using a medicine supply means or unnecessary wastewater can be discharged from the incubator means by using a wastewater discharge means without taking out the incubator means disposed in heat insulation box means from a heat insulation box, and the state of the cell culture can be observed with the incubator means formed in the heat insulation box means. Accordingly, the outside air does not enter directly into the incubator means during culturing, and the risk of contamination is completely eliminated. As a result, the culturing operations can be automatically performed over a long period.

    Abstract: A nucleic acid sample is mixed with a nucleotide reagent under hybridizing conditions. The nucleotide reagent contains nucleotides each combined at 3'- and 5'-terminals thereof with particles. After cleaving double strands of hybridization products, at least ones of particles separated from each other by the cleaving and particles held in the unreacted reagent and subjected to no cleavage are detected for measuring nucleic acids in the sample. Since the particles separated from each other by the cleaving and the particles held in the unreacted reagent and subjected to no cleavage are different in size of particle masses from each other, these two groups of particles can be discriminated and detected. Therefore, a labeling substance in the unreacted reagent is no longer required to be washed and separated, enabling nucleic acids to be quickly measured with high sensitivity.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for separating solid supports formed of magnetic particles on which immunocomplexes are bound, from a liquid phase includes a reaction container containing a fluid in which magnetic particles having immunocomplex bound thereon are suspended. The reaction container is positioned at a flock forming station, where the fluid is subjected to an alternate current magnetic field having a temporally varying intensity by an electromagnetic. The magnetic particles are flocculated with each other due to the application of such varying magnetic field to form a multiplicity of flocks. A stronger magnetic field then is applied to the resulting contents in the reaction container by a permanent magnet. The flocks are magnetically fixed on the inner wall surface of the reaction container by the action of the stronger magnetic field.

    Abstract: Microcapsules labeled with an antigen or antibody contain a liquid containing a fluorescent substance, for example, carboxyfluorescein. The liquid in the microcapsules is prepared so as to have a viscosity different from that of a liquid outside the microcapsules. For example, the microcapsules contain polyvinyl alcohol as a substance for increasing the viscosity. Antigen-antibody reaction is caused by mixing such microcapsules, a sample and a complement, and complement is activated with resulting antigen-antibody complex, whereby the microcapsules are lysed.The reaction mixture is irradiated with exciting light, and the polarization components (I.sub..parallel. and I.sub..perp.) of fluorescence from the reaction mixture are detected. The concentration of a substance to be assayed in the sample is determined by calculating the degree of polarization fluorescence P on the basis of the intensities of the polarization components.
