    Abstract: An embossment formation area is formed on one surface of envelope paper. The embossment formation area is left-right symmetric with respect to a centerline including the centerline parallel to a paper feed direction (transport direction), and is formed rearward over a predetermined length from a leading end in the paper feed direction. An embossment has convexes that are equal in height to or higher than the thickness of transparent film attached to a window, that is, a thickness change portion. Even when many sheets of the envelope paper are stacked, the envelope paper can be fed without causing a double feed or a no-load feed.

The bookbinding apparatus applies a required amount of glue determined by a sheet bundle thickness by, after applying side glues to both side surfaces of the sheet bundle, bringing the application roller in contact with a first position within a central region on the back edge face and rotating the roller in a forward direction, bringing the application roller in contact with a second position between the first position and a right side of the sheet bundle, and rotating the roller in the forward direction. The glue is leveled to form a flat layer of adhesive with an adequate thickness.

    Abstract: When the width of an envelope has sufficient margin for the width of a paper sheet, the aligning operation is skipped to improve productivity. The difference value is calculated by subtracting width dimension obtained from sheet size information of the paper sheet to be aligned from width dimension obtained from envelope size information of the envelope to enclose the paper sheet.
