  • Patent number: 5239379
Abstract: A television signal receiving apparatus receives a new standard television broadcasting signal in an environment in which conventional standard television broadcasting signals are present. A first tuner coupled to a first antenna extracts a first television signal which contains a new standard television signal and a conventional standard television signal of the specific channel at a first ratio, and a second tuner coupled to a second antenna extracts a second television signal which contains the new standard television signal and the conventional standard television signal of the specific channel at a second ratio. In an operation unit, a multiplier multiples the second television signal by a predetermined coefficient, and a subtracter subtracts an output signal of the multiplier from the first television signal. An output signal of the subtracter becomes the new standard television signal when the coefficient has a specific value.

  • Patent number: 5200277
Abstract: An electroluminescent device including dielectric films each of which consists of first regions made of a material with a strong self-healing type dielectric breakdown characteristic, second regions made of a material with a strong propagating type dielectric breakdown characteristic, and mixed regions consisting of a mixture of these two materials, the first and second regions being arranged alternately in the film thickness direction with the mixed regions therebetween, the mixing ratio of these two materials in the mixed regions changing in such a manner that the ratio of one material gradually decreases from a region of this material toward the adjacent region of the other material, that is, the ratio of the other material increases. Thus, the changes in the mixing ratio of these two materials of the dielectric films in the film thickness direction are continuous and periodic.

  • Patent number: 5182491
Abstract: A thin film electroluminescent (EL) device includes a pair of opposing electrodes formed on a substrate of a transparent electrical insulator, and an EL layer formed between the electrodes and covered at both surfaces with insulating layers respectively. Strontium sulfide is used as a host material of the EL layer, and its crystals tend strongly to have a (200) orientation, so that the resistance to free transit of electrons participating in emission of luminescence is substantially eliminated to ensure a higher brightness.

  • Patent number: 5103295
Abstract: A main signal motion detection signal and a multiplex motion detection signal are processed to obtain a compensated motion detection signal. This signal is a motion detection signal for a portion other than a portion having an aspect ratio of 4:3. Thus, a television signal processor is provided which eliminates quality differences between images in the portion having an aspect ratio of 4:3 and images in the other portion having a different aspect ratio.

  • Patent number: 5061999
Abstract: A signal of the same frequency band as an ordinary NTSC signal of the video signals is transmitted with the conventional frequency band but the other frequency components are frequency-converted to a frequency higher than the sound subcarrier as the multiplex signal. The ordinary video signal, sound subcarrier and multiplex signal are frequency-multiplexed and the main carrier is transmitted by angle modulation as the modulation signal. In this case, as the multiplex signal, a signal other than the ordinary signal may directly be frequency-multiplexed and the signal may be multiplexed. Using amplitude or angle modulation to improve the demodulation accuracy or S/N through the angle modulation. The ordinary signal is regenerated like in the conventional system, without influence on the conventional receiver. In addition, since the ordinary video signal and the multiplex signal are separated in the frequency band, these may be used as the independent new transmission bands.
