    Abstract: A laser beam reflector for reflecting a laser beam from a laser oscillator in a direction away from said laser oscillator includes a mirror holder, a mirror retainer removably coupled to the mirror holder, a bend mirror coupled to the mirror retainer for reflecting the laser beam, and a detecting device for detecting a positional relationship between the mirror holder and the mirror retainer. A laser beam cutting machine utilizes the laser beam reflector. When the mirror holder and mirror retainer are coupled properly, laser oscillation is performed. When the mirror retainer and holder are coupled improperly, laser oscillation is terminated immediately by a control device of the laser beam cutting machine.

    Abstract: An automatic welding apparatus for performing welding along the circumference of abutted pipe ends, wherein the apparatus can be taught and operate in accordance with data related to reference positions and welding paths along semicircumferences of the abutted ends. A welding head is driven along a guide attached to one of the two pipes. The welding head is first positioned to reference points and then moved along the guide in two upward directions to the ends of welding lines, thereby to teach the apparatus the welding operations to be performed. Subsequently, the apparatus is operated to carry out welding in accordance with the instructed operations.

    Abstract: A method for performing automatic circumferential welding around the circumference of a butt joint of a fixed pipe or the like. First, an initial set-up operation is performed wherein a welding head is moved around the welding circumference while producing pulses indicative of the amount of movement of the welding head. The number of pulses required to move the welding head one complete revolution is counted. Next, angles at which the welding conditions are to be changed are specified. These angles are converted to the form of pulses from a start point using the number of pulses previously counted. For the actual welding operation, pulses are again counted while moving the welding head. Each time the pulse count reaches one of the specified angles, a controller instructs a new set of welding conditions to the welding head.
