  • Patent number: 6928289
Abstract: A device and method for communicating voice data in packet form in a mobile communication system. In the packet voice data communication method, upon generation of voice data, a packet voice channel is assigned, and an active state is entered where packetized voice data is transmitted on the voice channel. If there is no voice data for a predetermined time period while in the active state, the assigned voice channel is released, and an inactive state is entered where no voice data is transmitted. If the next voice data is generated while in the inactive state, the voice channel active state is entered where a voice channel is assigned to transmit the next voice data, and the voice data is transmitted.

  • Patent number: 6768728
Abstract: In a transmission device and method for a CDMA communication system, when a shorter frame message is generated during transmission of a longer frame message, the transmission of the longer frame message is interrupted, whereupon the shorter frame message is immediately transmitted in place of a portion of the longer frame message. In one embodiment, after the longer frame message is interrupted and the shorter frame message is transmitted, only the tail portion of the longer frame message is transmitted thereafter. That is, the replaced portion of the longer frame message is not transmitted following the shorter frame message transmission. In an alternative embodiment, following the shorter frame message transmission, the remainder of the longer frame message, from the point of interruption, is transmitted in its entirety. In the latter case, the longer frame message is delayed by the length of the shorter frame message.

  • Publication number: 20030224786
Abstract: A base station controller (BSC) performs a handoff of a mobile terminal (MT) moving between cells of base transceiver stations (BTSs) in a mobile communication system. If a target BTS is selected as a handoff candidate for the MT as the MT moves from a cell of a source BTS in service toward a cell of the target BTS, the BSC transmits to the target BTS a first message for requesting the target BTS to buffer packets, and transmits packets to be transmitted to the MT to both the source BTS and the target BTS. If the target BTS is determined as a serving BTS for the MT, the BSC transmits to the target BTS a second message including a last sequence number in order to request the target BTS to transmit, to the MT, packets with sequence numbers following the last sequence number of a last packet transmitted from the source BTS to the MT, among the buffered packets.
