  • Patent number: 9384601
Abstract: An initial electronic fingerprint for a vehicle and selected component of the vehicle, e.g. an aircraft windshield having a heatable member, is made. During operation of the aircraft, the initial electronic fingerprint of the aircraft and a real time electronic fingerprint of the aircraft are compared to determine the operating performance of the heatable member. The parameter that provides the performance of the component includes a time count within a predetermined time period. As the time count increases during the predetermined time period, the performance of the heatable member toward unacceptable performance increases.

  • Patent number: 9347905
Abstract: A transparency, e.g. an aircraft laminated windshield, includes one or more moisture sensors to monitor moisture penetration to monitor performance of the moisture barrier. The moisture sensor includes a moisture corrodible article or sensor element, e.g. a strip or wire, which changes resistance as a function of corrosion. The sensor element can also include two dissimilar metals, e.g. a bimetal sensor element, or two similar metals having different physical dimensions. • Patent number: 9166400
Abstract: An electrical system responsive to overheating and/or electric arcing of an electrically conductive member, e.g. a heating member of an aircraft windshield, includes a first switch in a first current path, and a second switch in a second current path. The first current path is from an electrical power supply through the first switch, through an arc sensor to the heating member to the power supply. The second current path is from a temperature sensor monitoring the temperature of the heating member through the second switch to a temperature controller. When the temperature of the heating member is at or above a predetermined value, the temperature controller causes the first switch to open. When there is arcing, the second switch is moved to the open position. The temperature controller senses that the second switch is open and causes the first switch to open.

  • Patent number: 9108875
Abstract: A furnace for shaping glass sheets for aircraft transparencies using the cut-to-size method includes a preheat and cooling furnace defined as a first furnace, and a shaping furnace. A conveyor geared for reciprocating movement moves a bending iron supporting a glass sheet through the first furnace set to a preheat temperature. The glass sheet supported on the bending iron is heated in the shaping furnace by microwave beams from a gyrotron to heat portions of the glass sheet to be shaped to a complex shape. After the sheet is shaped, the conveyor moves the bending iron supporting the shaped glass sheet from the shaping furnace through the first furnace set to a cooling cycle.

  • Publication number: 20150171624
Abstract: A system for monitoring performance of an aircraft windshield includes a sensor comprising a sensory contact and an evaluation unit. The sensory contact is in physical contact with one or more components of the windshield, and generates a signal representative of the performance of the component(s) of the windshield. An electrical connector is secured to the surface of the windshield facing the interior of the aircraft. The signal from the sensory contact passes through the connector to the evaluation unit. The evaluation unit acts on the signal to determine the performance of the component(s) of the windshield, wherein the evaluation unit is spaced from and out of physical contact with the windshield and the electrical connector, and is in electrical contact with the electrical connector.

  • Publication number: 20140379747
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable storage media are provided for permitting users to search the content of a plurality of apps from a single search query input location. A user inputs a search query and a plurality of apps and/or the content thereof is searched to determine relevancy to the input query. If an app having relevant app content is identified, it may be determined if the app is associated with the querying user. If it is determined that the app is associated with the querying user, the information determined relevant to the input query may be presented to the user. If, it is determined that the app is not associated with the user, the user may be presented with the identity of the app and/or be directed to a location (e.g., an app store) where the user can become associated with the identified app and obtain the desired information.

  • Publication number: 20140337358
Abstract: Systems, methods, and computer-readable storage media are provided for inferring missing or ambiguous attribute values for entities based on partial information about such entities and/or information about other similar entities as extracted from multiple information sources for generating Web ranking signals for online search. A plurality of heterogeneous input data sources are ingested and combined to produce output data having information content that is more than the sum of its parts. A generic platform is provided where multiple data sources having information content related to entity attributes can be plugged-in without additional changes being necessary to the platform. This generic plugin model for extracting and inferring entity attribute values makes it easy to leverage new data sources as they become available to improve the final inferred attribute data.

  • Publication number: 20140067199
Abstract: A network system for monitoring and storing data of aircraft intelligent windows or windshields to provide useable life of, provide real life performance of, and/or measure characteristics and/or properties of, the windshields forwards the data from sensors mounting the windshield to a window sensing hub having a microprocessor programed to receive and process the data to determine the performance of the windshield and formatting the data in accordance to a preset program, wherein the program includes providing data from the sensors that measures characteristics and properties of the windshield that are active during the period in which the data is taken. An aircraft central maintenance system connected to the window sensing hub receives the formatted information from the window sensing hub and unfiltered or unformatted information, wherein the unfiltered information from the windshield is acted on by the central maintenance system to provide an estimated useable life of the windshield.
