    Abstract: There is provided an extremely thin polarizing plate with optical compensation layers which has an excellent antireflection characteristic, and which is suppressed in adverse effect on the display performance of an image display apparatus resulting from a foreign material. A polarizing plate with optical compensation layers of the present invention includes in this order: a polarizer; a first optical compensation layer; and a second optical compensation layer. The first optical compensation layer shows a refractive index characteristic of nx=nz>ny, and has an in-plane retardation Re(550) of from 220 nm to 320 nm. The second optical compensation layer shows a refractive index characteristic of nx>ny=nz, and has an in-plane retardation Re(550) of from 100 nm to 200 nm. The first optical compensation layer contains foreign materials, the first optical compensation layer has a thickness of 1.5 ?m or more, and the first optical compensation layer has a substantially flat surface.

    Abstract: A a body-site image obtained by capturing an image of a body site of a user is acquired. On the basis of the acquired body-site image, the orientation of the body site within the body-site image is detected. A template pattern conforming with the detected orientation is extracted from a template-pattern storage unit storing a plurality of template patterns. The acquired body-site image is converted into a body-site pattern obtained by extracting characteristic information from the body-site image. Authentication of the user is performed by comparing the body-site pattern obtained as a result of the converting and the extracted template pattern, thereby allowing appropriate personal authentication to be performed even when the orientation of a hand held over an imaging apparatus and the orientation of the imaging apparatus in registering vein data are different from those in performing authentication.

A common reflection point group defined as a group of reflection points belonging to the same vehicle is supplemented with the weak-reflection points for completing the common reflection point group.

Furthermore, the location of the cancer-related substance aggregated on a substrate cannot be determined with naked eyes. Then, as a second aspect of the present invention, a method for diagnosing a cancer disease is provided, said method being characterized by firstly identifying the location of the region of a crystal by observing fluorescent image on a microscope, and then irradiating the crystal, with laser beam to analyze with respect to the chemical modification of a histone tail and a remodeling factor.
