    Abstract: An image reading apparatus includes a transparent member, a casing, a reading unit and a supporting member supporting the reading unit inside the case and movable along the transparent member inside the casing. A flat cable includes a first end portion connected to a connecting portion provided on the reading unit and a second end portion connected to another substrate other than the reading unit, is curved in a direction toward a bottom surface of the casing from the transparent member and is laid along the bottom surface. The supporting member includes a holding portion to hold the flat cable so that the flat cable is along the transparent member. In a direction perpendicular to the transparent member, a distance between the holding portion and the transparent member is shorter than a distance between the connecting portion and the transparent member.
