  • Patent number: 4442879
Abstract: A radial ply tire having structure thereon for minimizing the wear characteristic of the lateral edges of the tread. The tire has a central zone which consists of a curved surface at a radius R.sub.1 to a specified distance from the centerline of the tire and a curved surface at a radius R.sub.2 over the near-shoulder zones from the lateral edges of the central zone to a lateral boundary of the lateral shoulder on the tire. The near-shoulder zones on the tire have an intermediate position C thereon located at a specified distance (W.sub.1) from the center line so that the specified position (W.sub.1) is also spaced a further specified distance (d) radially outward from a position (A) located at the aforesaid specified distance (W.sub.1) on an imaginary curved surface extrapolated from the radius of curvature R.sub.1.

  • Patent number: 4434831
Abstract: Tubeless tires for trucks and buses have radial carcass plies of polyester cords turned up around bead wires from the lateral inside to the lateral outside of the carcass walls. Polyester cords of not less than 4,500 d are used for the carcass plies. The compressibility of an inner-bead portion, i.e. that portion of the bead between the bead wire and a bead base is 4% to 35% of the entire inner-bead portion and 7% to 70% of the rubber material portion thereof. The most preferable compressibility is 15% to 20% as to the entire inner-bead portion and 30% to 35% as to the rubber material portion.

  • Patent number: 4328850
Abstract: A structure for a radial tire for trucks and buses having textile cords in its carcass ply layer and steel cords in its belt layer is disclosed. The tire of this invention has a tread angle within a certain range, which angle is taken such as to be constituted by a line directed from a width-end point of the tire to a width-end point of the tread and a line directed from the width-end point of the tread in the straight vertical direction. More specifically, the ratio of the width of the tread to the width of the tire is so arranged that the tread angle with full air pressure be 17.degree..+-.3.degree. and the difference between the tread angle with full air pressure and the tread angle with an air pressure of 0.5 kg/cm.sup.2 be 3.degree. or less.

  • Patent number: 4257469
Abstract: A radial tire for heavy duty vehicles with a plurality of carcass ply layers made of textile cords having end portions of such layers turning round a bead core and having turnup along a bead filler is disclosed. The tire of this invention has its inner layers comprising thick cords, while outer layers comprises thin cords long enough to entirely cover the bead filler, whereby the bead filler is fully in contact with the outer layer made of thin cords.

  • Patent number: 4244414
Abstract: A radial tire for heavy duty use in vehicles. The tire has a carcass having a two-ply structure using polyester cords of more than 4500d as the ply cords. The spacing of the cords between the first and second plies at approximately the maximum tire width, is nearly 1.2-1.7 times as large as cord diameter. The edge portions of the ply cords turned up around bead cores are coated with the same rubber as ply coating rubber, an extension of the edge covering rubber from the edge of the ply cords is three times or more as large as cord diameter.
