The selection unit determines the necessity of output of the generated log on the basis of the log and the third list.

The controller also searches the memory to determine the application program associated with the obtained file type from application programs stored in the memory, starts the application program associated with the obtained file type, when it is determined that the application program associated with the obtained file type is stored in the memory, and opens the received document file without user input, based upon the application program determined in the search.

A network scanner receives the search packet and determines whether or not the received search packet is a group name to be responded (ST507). When determining it as the group name to be responded, the network scanner sends back a search response packet to PC (ST509). When receiving the search response packet, PC transmits a registration packet to the network scanner. When receiving the registration packet, the network scanner extracts user terminal information from the registration packet (ST511) and registers it to address notebook data (ST512). After that, the network scanner transmits a registration response packet to PC (ST513).

If current time exceeds lease end time, the user information registration program 68 adds the IP address of network scanner 2 relating to the current registration destination to a response table 120. Sequentially, user information of PC3 is registered to the network scanner 2 (registration destination). The user information registration program 68 registers new user information to all registration destinations (network scanners 2) registered in the registration destination table.

The applet establishes a communication line between a TCP/IP processing section of a reception notify processing section and the applet, and a reception notify transmitting section notifies the applet of reception notification. The applet displays reception notification on PC. This makes it possible to notify an outer terminal of data reception in substantially real time.

    Abstract: A multi-function system boots up a WWW server in which an applet is embedded. When a browser, which is executed on PCs, requests an HTTP file, the multi-function system transfers the HTML file and the applet. The browser executes the applet. The applet opens a TCP socket and starts communications between the multi-function and the applet. A status information obtaining section of the multi-function system obtains a status of each section of the multi-function system in response to a request from the applet, and the multi-function system notifies the applet of status information. The applet displays the status of each section. This makes it possible to send notification of the status of each section to PCs.
