  • Patent number: 10098808
Abstract: An end effector is capable of being used to stimulate a portion of skin at a stimulation frequency. The end effector includes a base portion that is couplable to a motor and an end portion having a plurality of contact points at which the end effector is configured to contact the portion of skin. The plurality of contact points are located at a target distance from each other that is based on an inverse of the stimulation frequency. The end effector is configured such that, when the base portion is coupled to the motor and the motor is operating, the end effector has a resonant frequency based on the stimulation frequency. When the motor is operating and a force is applied to bias the end effector toward the portion of skin, a cyclical stimulus is produced within the portion of skin at about the stimulation frequency.

  • Publication number: 20180271742
Abstract: The disclosed embodiments provide skin stimulating devices and methods that address the aging effects of skin at a protein level. Particularly, cyclical mechanical strain is used to regulate specific proteins within the skin, so as to produce specific effects. As a non-limiting example, the disclosed embodiments can be used to increase the production of certain proteins (e.g., hyaluronan synthase 3 (HAS3); fibronectin; tropoelastin; procoll1; integrin, etc.) in the skin, which results in anti-aging effects by increasing epidermal cohesion.

  • Patent number: 10076646
Abstract: An applicator includes a roller, a treatment composition component, a cutaneous measurement component, and a controller. The roller contacts a portion of skin at a contact location and subsequently a target location. The treatment composition component selectively deposits a composition on a roller surface at a deposition location that is on the roller surface a circumferential distance away from the contact location. The cutaneous measurement component generates one or more parameters associated with the target location on the portion of skin. The target location is a target distance from the contact location that is equal to or greater than the circumferential distance. The controller controls the treatment composition component to selectively deposit the treatment composition on the roller surface in response to the one or more parameters associated with the target location on the portion of skin generated by the cutaneous measurement component.

Abstract: An applicator for treating skin conditions includes at least one treatment composition component and a discontinuity identification component. The at least one treatment composition component is configured to selectively deposit a treatment composition at a deposit location on the portion of skin. The discontinuity identification component is operably coupled to an electromagnetic energy detector. The discontinuity identification component includes circuitry configured to monitor a level of the one or more parameters as the applicator traverses the portion of skin and to control the at least one treatment composition component to selectively deposit the treatment composition to the deposit location on the portion of skin based on one or more inputs indicative of a decrease in reflection of an electromagnetic energy interrogation stimulus from the portion of skin at the deposit location.
