  • Patent number: 5539651
Abstract: The present invention relates to a system and method for determining the effects of linear and nonlinear loads on electrical power systems. The invention utilizes stored load characteristic data in terms of current spectra at predefined voltage values and network impedances to determine the voltage drop between an electrical substation bus and an electrical load bus. The actual load voltage is determined by an iteration technique which takes the difference between a collected substation voltage and the voltage drop and compares the result of the difference to an estimated load voltage. For each iteration the estimated load voltage is re-estimated until the difference result equals the estimated voltage, thereby determining the actual load voltage. Knowing the actual load voltage, permits determination of actual current and power values which are compared to collected substation current and power values. If the values are equal, the effects of the harmonics are known.

  • Patent number: 5397983
Abstract: Measurements are taken perimetrically about power or feeder cables at equidistant spaced locations with one or more vibration transducers feeding an electronic measuring circuit sharply tuned to twice the fundamental frequency of the supply system. A substantially flat response around the cable indicates a deenergized cable, while an energized cable produces vibrations that vary sinusoidally in amplitude as the readings progress around the cable.

  • Patent number: 5270593
Abstract: Apparatus for propelling, suspending and guiding a conveyance across ground without contact between said conveyance and said ground, comprising an electromagnetic, air cored induction motor including a primary formed of a coaxial array of coils; means for energizing said coils with polyphase electrical alternating currents to create an electromagnetic wave traveling longitudinally along the array; a secondary formed of a sleeve concentric to and surrounding said array of coils and made of conducting material, said sleeve being electromagnetically coupled to said primary and being cut along a longitudinal generatrix thereof to define a slot permitting the support means which supports the primary to pass there through.

  • Patent number: 4926741
Abstract: A coil launcher having a barrel segmented into sections formed of sets of poly-phase energizable coils which are energized in succession by a power supply comprised of capacitors, with one capacitor coupled to a respective section of coils. A predetermined number of sections of coils disposed at the breech end of the barrel are merged, and the resultant merged section is coupled to a like number of pre-energized capacitors which are connected successively and cumulatively in series to that merged section of coils by way of switch circuits, whereby the number of capacitors connected in series increases over time to increase the level and resonant frequency of energy supplied to that merged section of coils.

  • Patent number: 4742243
Abstract: An electric circuit consolidates electric power from a number of power sources, having various voltage levels and connected to form a grid and delivers the power to a common load. This is accomplished by interposing switching elements in the connection or nodes between the terminals of the grid and the busbars that feed the load. These switches operate in a manner such that all the sources contribute to the output power. However, at any given time, only two nodes on the grid are connected to the load. Alternating current is derived from a direct current grid by using sets of switching elements to reverse polarity of the voltage supplied to the load.

  • Patent number: 4335424
Abstract: The bridge converter comprises a number of switching elements and an electronic logic system which regulated the electric power levels by controlling the firing, i.e., the initiation of the conduction period of the switching elements.Cyclic firing of said elements allows the direct current to bypass the alternating current system with high power factor and negligible losses.
