CARD GAMES
A card game and method of playing a card game two card being dealt to a player cards and one card being dealt to a dealer or as a common card from a pack of playing cards, the player's cards being compared to the dealer's or common card, the player winning the game if one of the player's cards is of equal or lower rank than the dealer's or common card and the other of the player's cards is of equal or higher rank than the dealer's or common card.
The present invention relates to a card game and in particular a card game that utilises one or more conventional decks of playing cards.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTIONAccording to one aspect of the present invention a card game comprises a pack of playing cards, two card being dealt to a player and one card being dealt to a dealer or as a common card, the player's cards being compared to the dealer's or common card, the player winning the game if one of the player's cards is of equal or lower rank than the dealer's or common card and the other of the player's cards is of equal or higher rank than the dealer's or common card.
According to a further aspect of the present invention a method of playing a card game comprises the steps of:

- dealing two cards to a player;
- dealing one card to a dealer or as a common card;
- comparing the two cards dealt to the player with the card dealt to the dealer or as a common card;
wherein the player wins the game if one of the player's cards is of equal or lower rank than the dealer's or common card and the other of the player's cards is of equal or higher rank than the dealer's or common card.
The game in accordance with the present invention may be played as principal game. However according to a preferred embodiment, the game is played as a side bet in another card game, for example Blackjack, Poker, Baccarat or Punto-Banco, where two cards are initially dealt to the player. Alternatively, the two cards dealt to the player may be specified cards, for example the first and second card, of more than two cards dealt to the player. Moreover, the card dealt to the dealer or common card may be a card or a specified one, for example the first, of a plurality of cards dealt specifically for the dealers use or as one or more common cards for use by a plurality of players participating in the game.
The game may be played as a principal game or as a side bet in another card game, may be played by one or more players.
According to a preferred embodiment of the invention, a bet may be placed on the outcome of the game, players winning the game being paid out at odds depending on the relative ranks of the player's and dealer's or common cards.
The pack of cards used to play the game may comprise one of more conventional decks of playing cards.
The invention is now described, by way of example only, with reference to the accompanying sole drawing, which shows a layout for a gaming cloth for playing Blackjack, with a side bet in accordance with the present invention.
As shown in sole FIGURE, the gaming cloth 10 has a plurality of areas 12, in which one or more players may place a bet on the outcome of a hand of Blackjack. Associated with each of the betting areas 12 is an area 14, in which a player participating in the hand of Blackjack may place a side bet.
In conventional manner, a dealer deals two cards face up, in turn to each of the players participating in the game and one card face up to the dealer. The cards of each player who has placed a side bet in area 14 are then compared with the dealers card to determine the outcome of the side bet. For the purposes of the side bet Ace is taken to be high.
The player wins the side bet if one of the player's cards is of equal or lower rank than the dealer' card and the other of the player's is of equal or higher rank that the dealer's card. Otherwise, the player will lose the side bet, see for example Table 1.
Winning bets are paid out at odds which depend on the relative ranks of the player's and dealer's cards, in accordance with the following pay table:
Once the outcome of the side bets have been determined and paid out, the Blackjack hands are then played out in conventional manner.
Various modifications may be made without departing from the invention, for example, the pay out odds may be increased, if the two player's cards and the dealer's or common card are of the same suit.
The game in accordance with the present invention or any variation thereof may be played in electronic form, by Remote betting, on the world wide web, on the Internet, on a local area network or remote network; on a gaming machine or in the form of a lottery game.
Claims
1. A card game comprising a pack of playing cards, two card being dealt to a player and one card being dealt to a dealer or as a common card, the player's cards being compared to the dealer's or common card, the player winning the game if one of the player's cards is of equal or lower rank than the dealer's or common card and the other of the player's cards is of equal or higher rank than the dealer's or common card
2. The game according to claim 1 in which the two player's cards are specified cards from three or more cards dealt to the player.
3. The game according to claim 1 in which the dealer's card or common card is a card specified from two or more cards dealt to the dealer or as common cards.
4. The game according to claim 1 in which the pack of playing cards comprises a single conventional deck of playing cards.
5. The game according to claim 4 in which the player may place a bet on the outcome of the game, winning bets being paid out at odds in accordance with the following pay table; none consecutive cards of different rank; 1:1 pair 3:2 cards of consecutive rank 7:1 triple 20:1.
6. The game according to claim 1 in which the pack of playing cards comprises a two or more conventional decks of playing cards.
7. The game according to claim 6 in which the player may place a bet on the outcome of the game, winning bets being paid out at odds in accordance with the following pay table; none consecutive cards of different rank; 1:1 pair 1:1 cards of consecutive rank 7:1 triple 15:1.
8. The game according to claim 1 in which the game is played as a side bet in another principal card game.
9. The game according to claim 8 in which the principal card game is selected from the group including, Blackjack, Poker, Baccarat and Punto-Banco.
10. A method of playing a card game comprising the steps of:
- dealing two cards to a player;
- dealing one card to a dealer or as a common card;
- comparing the two cards dealt to the player with the card dealt to the dealer or as a common card;
- wherein the player wins the game if one of the player's cards is of equal or lower rank than the dealer's or common card and the other of the player's cards is of equal or higher rank than the dealer's or common card.
11. The method according to claim 10 in which the two cards dealt to the player are specified cards from three or more cards dealt to the player.
12. The method according to claim 10 in which the card dealt to the dealers or as a common card, is a card specified from two or more cards dealt to the dealer or as common cards.
13. The method according to claim 10 in which the cards are dealt from a pack of playing cards comprising a single conventional deck of playing cards.
14. The method according to claim 13 in which the player may place a bet on the outcome of the game, winning bets being paid out at odds in accordance with the following pay table; none consecutive cards of different rank; 1:1 pair 3:2 cards of consecutive rank 7:1 triple 20:1.
15. The method according to claim 10 in which the cards are dealt from a pack of playing cards comprises two or more conventional decks of playing cards.
16. The method according to claim 15 in which the player may place a bet on the outcome of the game, winning bets being paid out at odds in accordance with the following pay table; none consecutive cards of different rank; 1:1 pair 1:1 cards of consecutive rank 7:1 triple 15:1.
17. The method according to claim 10 in which the game is played as a side bet in another principal card game.
18. The method according to claim 17 in which the principal card game is selected from the group including, Blackjack, Poker, Baccarat or Punto-Banco.
