BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION 1. Field of the Invention

This invention relates generally to baby bibs, and more specifically to baby bibs connectable to a high chair tray.

2. Description of the Related Art

Prior art baby bibs used for covering babies while seated in a high chair leave gaps between the baby and the high chair tray, wherein food and liquids can pass through and make a mess. Some prior art baby bibs connect to a top portion of the tray of a high chair or fully extend over and cover the tray. These configurations result in problems including run-off food and liquids off the tray and onto the floor, reduction in usable tray surface areas, and gives a baby a chance to grab and pull the bib off of the tray. Thus, a need exists for a new and improved baby bib to avoid the above-mentioned problems.

BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION

In view of the foregoing disadvantages inherent in the known types of baby bibs or the like in the prior art, the present invention provides a novel baby bib connectable to a high chair tray. As such, the general purpose of the present invention, which will be described subsequently in greater detail, is to provide a baby bib connectable to a high chair tray that includes a material adapted to be worn by a baby while seated in the high chair and used to protect the baby and their garments from food and liquids while seated in the high chair. The baby bib further includes attachment means used to releasably attach the portions of the baby bib to the high chair tray in order to prevent food and liquids from passing through gaps between the baby bib and a high chair tray which is commonly formed between prior art baby bibs and high chair trays. The baby bib further includes other releasable attachment means for adjusting the fit of the baby bib upon and around a baby, and a silicone catcher adapted to be releasably attached to a front portion of the baby bib and catch dropped food and liquids upon a front portion of the baby bib, with all the advantages of the prior art and none of the disadvantages.

There has thus been outlined, rather broadly, the more important features of the invention in order that the detailed description thereof that follows may be better understood and in order that the present contribution to the art may be better appreciated. The features of the invention which are believed to be novel are particularly pointed out and distinctly claimed in the concluding portion of the specification. These and other features, aspects, and advantages of the present invention will become better understood with reference to the following drawings and detailed description.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION

As discussed above, embodiments of the present invention relate to a baby bib connectable to a high chair tray that includes a material adapted to be worn by a baby while seated in the high chair and used to protect the baby and their garments from food and liquids while seated in the high chair. The baby bib further includes attachment means used to releasably attach portions of the baby bib to the high chair tray in order to prevent food and liquids from passing through gaps between the baby bib and a high chair tray which is commonly formed between prior art baby bibs and high chair trays. The baby bib further includes other releasable attachment means for adjusting the fit of the baby bib upon and around a baby, and a silicone catcher adapted to be releasably attached to a front portion of the baby bib and catch dropped food and liquids upon a front portion of the baby bib.

Referring now to the drawings FIGS. 1-7, the baby bib 100 is connectable to a high chair 200 having a tray 210, wherein the baby bib 100 includes a garment 110 adapted to cover a substantial portion of a baby's upper torso and includes arm portions 120 having adjustment members 122, leg portions 124, a neck portion 126 having adjustment members 128, a front portion 112, a back portion 115, a silicone catcher 132 which can be to be placed within a pouch 130 located on the front portion 112, or releasably attached to the front portion 112 via hook and loop fasteners 134, snaps, magnets, or the like, and adapted to catch dropped food upon the front portion, and releasable attachment members 140, having strap adjustment portions 141, attached to spaced lower edge sections of leg portions 124 of the garment 110 and adapted to releasably attach around or to under portions 220 of the high chair tray 210 in order to prevent food and liquids from passing through gaps between the baby bib 100 and the high chair tray 210.

Back portion 115 is split vertically to form two back portions 117 and 119 in order to more easily removably attach the baby bib 100 around and upon a baby. Releasable attachment members 140, having strap adjustment portions 141, are located on respective side sections thereof and used to releasably and adjustably secure the two back portions together. Back portions 117 and 119 also have releasable attachment members 140, having strap adjustment portions 141, located on spaced lower edge sections thereof. Furthermore, front portion 112 includes a V-shaped split 125 in its lower edge section thereof and is adapted to aid in wrapping the front portion and the two leg portions around respective spaced under portions of the baby high chair tray.

All the releasable attachment members 140 can be formed as straps with releasable latch members having strap adjustment portions 141, or with hook and loop material wherein one of the hook and loop material 175 is connected to the under portion 220 of the high chair tray 210 and the other 212 of the hook and loop material is attached to the leg portions 124 of the garment 110, or even as magnets, wherein one magnet 175 is connected to the under portion 220 of the high chair tray 210 and another 212 is attached to the leg portions 124 of the garment 110. Other types of attachment members can also be incorporated, such a clips, snaps, hooks, buckles, tape, and variations and combinations thereof.

The adjustment members 122 of the arm portions 120, and adjustment members 128 of the neck portion 126 can be formed as hook and loop material, clips, snaps, hooks, buckles, tape, cinches, elastic bands, and variations and combinations thereof.

The garment 110 is formed from a flexible material that is food and liquid resistant, is machine washable, and is hypoallergenic. The pouch 130 located on the front portion 112 can be formed as a fabric pouch or the like that is adapted to releasably retain silicone catcher 132 therein. And, in a second embodiment, the silicone catcher 132 can be releasably attached to the front portion 112 via hook and loop fasteners 134, or snaps, or the like. The silicone catcher 132 may be formed from other materials as well, including forms of gel, STYROFOAM, other injected foams, plastics, ceramic, metals, and pre-formed molds.

When the preferred embodiment is in use, as shown in FIGS. 4, 5, and 7, the silicone catcher 132 is releasably attached to the front portion 112 of garment 110 via hook and loop fasteners 134, then the two back portions 117 and 119 of garment 110 are wrapped around respective under portions 220 of the high chair tray 210 and connected to respective leg portions 124 via attachment members 140 and adjusted via their respective strap adjustment portions 141 to snugly fit thereto and form a hammock-type shape. The baby is then placed within the seat of the high chair 200 and baby bib 100 fitted upon the baby's upper torso, then the two back portions 117 and 119 are connected together and neck portion 126 adjustably connected around the baby's neck area via attachment member 140 and strap adjustment portions 141. As such, any gap between the baby bib 100 and high chair 200 is eliminated thereby preventing any food or liquids from falling therebetween and onto the baby or the floor. Furthermore, since the baby bib 100 is attached under portion 220 of the high chair tray 210 the baby cannot access the attachment members 140 and disengage the baby bib 100 from the high chair tray 210, as is one of the problems with prior art baby bibs and high chair systems.

The embodiments of the invention described herein are exemplary and numerous modifications, variations and rearrangements can be readily envisioned to achieve substantially equivalent results, all of which are intended to be embraced within the spirit and scope of the invention. Further, the purpose of the foregoing abstract is to enable the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office and the public generally, and especially the scientist, engineers and practitioners in the art who are not familiar with patent or legal terms or phraseology, to determine quickly from a cursory inspection the nature and essence of the technical disclosure of the application.

Although specific embodiments have been illustrated and described herein, it will be appreciated by those of ordinary skill in the art that any arrangement, which is calculated to achieve the same purpose, may be substituted for the specific embodiment shown. This application is intended to cover any adaptations or variations of the present invention.
