Abstract: A cam sprocket 211 is driven to rotate by the drive force transmitted from a crankshaft 130 to by turn drive an eccentric plate 250 around an axis running in parallel with the axis of rotation of the cam sprocket 211. The eccentric plate 250 is movable from a position concentric with the cam sprocket 211 to an eccentric position. As it is driven to rotate at the eccentric position, it drives an intake cam block 240 by way of a variable camshaft 230 with a rotary phase difference that changes periodically relative to the cam sprocket 211. The intake cam block 240 drives an intake valve. The phase angle of the eccentric plate 250 at the connection section with the cam sprocket 211 and at the connection section with the movable camshaft 230 is s defined to be between 80° and 160° or between 200° and 290° when the direction in which the eccentric plate 250 rotates is assumed to be the forward direction.

Abstract: A lock pin bore in a two-step rocker arm assembly contains a hydraulically-actuable lock pin. A return spring urges the lock pin toward an unlatched mode. The bore has one or more annular grooves formed near the outer end of the bore. A plug, formed preferably of a soft metal, is pressed as a hydraulic seal into the bore. During assembly, the final position of the lock pin within the bore is set by positioning a stopping assembly fixture into the locking end of the bore. The plug is pressed into the bore until contact is made with the lock pin and the lock pin engages the fixture. The plug is radially deformed into the annular groove(s) to anchor the plug and fix the outer limit of travel of the locking pin and the compressive load on the return spring.

Abstract: An air-intake device having a noise reduction mechanism includes a surge tank connected to an intake manifold for introducing intake air into an internal combustion engine, an air duct connected to an upstream end of the surge tank and a resonator connected to the surge tank and the air duct. The resonator forms a resonator chamber connected to both the surge tank and the air duct. The surge tank is separated from the resonator chamber by a first vibrating member, and the air duct is separated from the resonator chamber by a second vibrating member. The noises in the surge tank are offset or reduced by resonating vibrations of the first vibrating member, and the noises in the air duct are offset or reduced by resonating vibrations of the second vibrating member. Thus, the intake air noises are effectively reduced by a simple combination of the resonator and the vibrating members.

Drug vial (7) (with needed drugs in propellant, cosolvents) has a spray rod (8) fitting into a socket (9) with a nozzle (10) leading into the mouthpiece. Mouthpiece (11) has a small air hole (12) with a baffle (13) creating audible sound, for early inhalation triggering. A filter (14) covers the air hole. A dose counter (15) records use. The long mouth piece is kept in mouth, air inhaled, alerting sound is heard, drug vial is pressed, the spray is released at back of throat with longer, deeper and slow inhalation for more lung drug deposit and relief with clean filtered air and dose counter! Modified Insulin (protein) inhaler socket has separate propellant (7) and insulin vials (18)! Insulin vial has a piston (19) and valved exit (20) fitting the socket, before propellant vial.

Abstract: An extendable lighted intubation stylet enables a clinician or emergency medical personnel to introduce a breathing tube into a person's trachea. The extendable lighted intubation stylet includes a handle, a switch, a sheath, an extension member, and a light source. The extension member can be extended or retracted relative to the sheath thereby increasing or decreasing the length of the extendable lighted intubation stylet. The light source provides for superior visualization of the airway compared to a standard laryngoscope bulb. In its extended configuration, the extendable intubation stylet is immediately available in the case of an unanticipated difficult airway and can be used as a bougie. The extendable stylet is lightweight and convenient because it can be folded and placed in a pocket or in a space critical location such as a field kit or portable airway bag.

Abstract: A pressure-assisted breathing system is provided that comprises: a pressure-generating circuit for maintaining a positive pressure within the system; a patient interface device coupled to a patient's respiratory system; a respiratory circuit for providing gas communication between the pressure-generating circuit and the patient interface device; means for introducing aerosol particles into the gas flow in the respiratory circuit; and means for discontinuing the introduction of aerosol particles into said respiratory circuit gas flow when the patient exhales. In one embodiment, a flow sensor is disposed in an auxiliary circuit in fluid communication with the respiratory circuit and electronically coupled with a nebulizer. The flow sensor is adapted to detect changes in the volumetric flow rate of gas in the auxiliary circuit when the patient exhales and stops exhaling and sends corresponding electronic signals to the nebulizer to turn off and turn on, respectively.
