Publication number: 20080041134Abstract: A deterioration detection apparatus for an oxygen sensor is able to detect an abnormality of the oxygen sensor constantly with high precision, without being affected by the temperature characteristic of the element impedance. The apparatus applies a voltage V to the oxygen sensor, and calculates an element impedance real value Rsr=V/1 of a sensor element based on the applied voltage and the current I caused to flow by the voltage. The apparatus calculates an element temperature estimated value Tex of the oxygen sensor from a factor that affects the temperature of the oxygen sensor. The apparatus determines whether the oxygen sensor has an abnormality on the basis of whether the relationship between the element impedance real value Rsr and the element temperature estimated value Tex can be regarded as a relationship that agrees with a normal temperature characteristic.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 9, 2007Publication date: February 21, 2008Applicant: Toyota Jidosha Kabushiki KaishaInventor: Kazutaka Hattori

Publication number: 20080041167Abstract: The invention relates to a new method and a new apparatus to accurately measure flow rates in injection systems such as gasoline, direct injection gasoline and diesel downstream of the injector where the fuel (liquid in general) is discharged from a nozzle (e.g. an injector). More specifically, it measures the flow velocities and volumetric flow rates in highly transient flows discharged cyclically with injection duration within a few hundred microseconds. Moreover, it is able to resolve multiple injection shots produced within an engine cycle with high volumetric (0.01 mm3) and temporal (10 ?s) sensitivities. The main uses of this instrument in automotive industry are manufactures of FIE, injection test machines and injection diagnostic systems. In other industries the uses maybe represented by measuring and controlling of highly transient flows with a need to accurately perform quantitative flow data in wide range of timing and dosing.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 25, 2007Publication date: February 21, 2008Inventors: Frank Palazzolo, Murad Ismailov

Publication number: 20080041168Abstract: A process for operating a Coriolis mass flow rate measurement device which has at least one measurement tube, the measurement tube being excited into vibrations with a predetermined excitation frequency and a predetermined excitation phase. The response phase which is achieved thereby and the rate of change of the response phase are detected and the excitation frequency is changed by the frequency amount which arises by means of a predetermined function from the detected rate of change of the response phase. This makes it possible to maintain continuous measurement of the mass rate of flow even if two-phase flows occur.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 3, 2007Publication date: February 21, 2008Applicant: Krohne AGInventors: Kourosh Kolahi, Ralf Storm

Publication number: 20080041171Abstract: A system and method for using an air collection device to collect a continuous air sample as the device descends through the atmosphere are provided. The air collection device may be one or more coils of thin-walled elongated hollow tubing having a small interior diameter. The thin-walled elongated hollow tubing may be of a substantially nonreactive and nonabsorptive material such as stainless steel. A valve or the like controls the flow of air into and out of the tubing with one of the ends of the tubing closed and the other of the ends open at the beginning or end of the ascent and closed substantially at the end of the descent to seal the continuous air sample in the air collection device. The air collection device may be insulated and have cushioning. Once the continuous air sample is collected in the air collection device, it is analyzed to determine the presence and mole fraction of trace gases at different altitudes in the atmosphere.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 15, 2006Publication date: February 21, 2008Inventor: Pieter P. Publication number: 20080041172Abstract: The invention provides a sidestream gas sampling apparatus having a gas sampling circuit and a set of reusable elements. The gas sampling circuit carries the gas sample from a main flow of gas, through a sample analysis area, and vents the gas sample to an analyzed gas destination. The reusable components provide motive forces to remove the gas sample through the gas sampling circuit and provide analysis components for the gas sampling apparatus while not making contact with the gas sample. As such, the reusable components do not become contaminated by the gas sample and do not have to be cleaned or sterilized between applications.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 29, 2007Publication date: February 21, 2008Inventors: Michael Jaffe, David Rich

Publication number: 20080041173Abstract: A system for facilitating the mapping of a partially or fully occluded (hidden) pipeline containing a gas, a liquid, or a liquid-gas mixture. The system includes a sensor device having an internal sphere with a generally smooth outer surface and an internal orientation stabilizer. Within the internal sphere are contained a tri-axial inertial sensor, a time keeping device, a data processing device, a data recording device, and a power source. The internal sphere is centered and held within an external sphere having an inside diameter that is incrementally larger than the outside diameter of the internal sphere. The external sphere has a generally smooth unobstructed inner surface and fully encloses the internal sphere. A quantity of fluid fills the spatial gap between the outside surface of the inside sphere and the inside surface of the external sphere in a manner that permits omni-directional free rotational movement of the internal sphere within the external sphere.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 9, 2007Publication date: February 21, 2008Inventor: Garth TORMOEN
