Abstract: A device for controlling valve movements in an internal combustion engine includes a rotating camshaft having a cam curve, the camshaft being designed, via a rocker arm, to interact with a valve mechanism for operating the inlet or exhaust valve by a valve spring. The valve mechanism includes timing gear which allows the return movement of the valve mechanism to be controlled during the closing phase of the inlet valve or exhaust valve, independently of the cam curve. A resilient element is arranged between the rocker arm and a fixed point in such a way that the rocker arm continuously follows the cam curve as the camshaft rotates. The force of the valve spring is adjusted to the moving mass of the valve mechanism and to forces counteracting the valve closure. The force exerted by the resilient element are adjusted to the mass of the rocker arm for the purpose of minimizing the energy losses of the valve mechanism.

Abstract: In an internal combustion engine in which air-intake valves reciprocate in parallel to the direction of reciprocal motion of pistons, an air-intake structure of an internal combustion engine includes an outward projection of the air-intake port that is reduced to achieve a downsizing of a cylinder head. An air-intake structure includes air-intake valves that are supported by a cylinder head having integrally formed air-intake ports so as to reciprocate in parallel with the direction of reciprocal motion of the pistons. Abstract: The fireplace and chimney is provided made of specially formed stacked modular concrete units laid with several modular concrete masonry units in horizontal masonry courses, and specifically designed so a traditional clay flue liner may be inserted into the modular chimney as it is being erected. The sections making up the fireplace and chimney are the firebox, the damper level, the structural shelf level, the tapered smoke chamber level, and the chimney to form a naturally drafted masonry fireplace assembly.

Abstract: A solar blackbody waveguide that captures and uses sunlight to heat a thermal heat transfer fluid. One or more systems of optical mirrors provided on each tower captures and concentrates the sunlight. Each system of optical mirrors is movably mounted on its tower to track the daily movement of the sun and to maintain the proper angle with the horizon throughout the year. Each system of optical mirrors directs the light into an associated short light pipe which delivers the light into a curved solar coil contained within an enclosure. Energy from the light rays is absorbed by the solar coil and transferred to thermal working fluid or heat transfer fluid flowing between the solar coil and the enclosure. The energy laden thermal heat transfer fluid is gathered from a plurality of towers for use with existing technologies, such as with a combined cycle gas turbine, boiler, or steam generator.

Abstract: An apparatus for collecting heat from a solar concentrator has an isothermal body defining an elongated cavity with a circular opening having a diameter equal to a diameter of a focus of the solar concentrator, the cavity having a reflective walls such that solar rays contacting the walls are substantially reflected. The circular opening is located at the focus of the solar concentrator and perpendicular to a principal axis of the solar concentrator, and the axis of the cavity is aligned with the principal axis of the solar concentrator. The heat generated in the isothermal body is absorbed by the heat sink. The length of the cavity is sufficient to absorb a desired proportion of the energy in the solar rays entering the cavity and is about 5 to 9 times the diameter of the opening of the cavity. Depending on material used, the isothermal body can be enclosed in a reducing atmosphere to maintain reflectivity of the cavity walls.

Abstract: Apparatus and a method for providing heated replacement air to a paint spray booth or other commercial process which requires heated make-up air to replace exhausted air. A blower draws outside air through a filter and an injection chamber prior to delivering the air to the process. Hot gases from a burner are injected into the injection chamber and mixed with the replacement air to adjust the temperature of the replacement air. The burner uses combustion air which is separate from the replacement air. The flow rate of the exhaust air and the replacement air can be adjusted to meet changing needs of the process. The BTU output from the burner is adjusted to maintain a desired replacement air temperature.

Abstract: A nebulizer comprising an aerosol generator and a titration mechanism comprising a dosing mechanism, a screw assembly, a plunger and an actuator, wherein the dosing mechanism is rotatably mounted in the nebulizer and the plunger is mounted in the nebulizer to travel along a longitudinal axis substantially perpendicular to the plane of rotation of the dosing mechanism. The actuator is mounted to the nebulizer to travel in the direction of the longitudinal axis. The screw mechanism allows the rotation of the dosing mechanism to fix a variable distance of travel of the plunger based on the selected dose, without moving the plunger longitudinally. This allows the user to verify and if necessary correct the selected dose prior to any drug being released from the vial. Operation of the actuator causes longitudinal movement, through the screw mechanism, to the plunger.

Abstract: A nasal dilator comprises a laminate of vertically stacked layers each comprising at least one member or component. The layers form a unitary, or single body, truss. The truss features horizontal regions adapted to engage outer wall tissues of first and second nasal passages and to traverse the bridge of a nose therebetween. The dilator acts to stabilize and/or expand the nasal outer wall tissues and prevent said tissues from drawing inward during breathing. Dilator members, including components thereof, are configured to dimensional criteria suitable to engage and provide effective dilation to nasal passages, that create lateral and longitudinal registration of dilator members or components during manufacture, and that facilitate manufacture with minimal material waste. Methods of manufacture further include progressive steps that fabricate and assemble components into finished devices, including user assembly thereof.
