  • Patent number: 7518025
Abstract: A process is provided for producing an alkyl aromatic compound having substituents at the 3- and 5-positions by alkylating an aromatic compound having two substituents in the meta positions with an olefin having 2 to 4 carbon atoms in the presence of a Broensted acid, followed by addition of a Lewis acid and isomerization in the copresence of the Broensted acid and the Lewis acid. According to the present invention, 3,5-dimethylethylbenzene, 3,5-dimethylcumene, etc. may be produced in a stable manner with high yield and high selectivity under mild and simple reaction conditions. The alkyl aromatic compounds having substituents at the 3- and 5-positions are useful as intermediates for functional chemicals for use in pharmaceutical, agricultural and electronic materials. With the method of the present invention, the catalyst used can be recovered and recycled. Thus, desired alkyl aromatic compounds may be obtained economically in an industrially advantageous manner while reducing the load on the environment.

  • Patent number: 7518040
Abstract: Using crossbred segregating populations of two-rowed and six-rowed barley cultivars, the row type of individual plants was precisely determined. The results indicate that row type is controlled by a single gene. In addition, it was discovered that molecular markers linked with this gene could be used to identify whether a test barley or related Triticeae plant is two-rowed or six-rowed. Furthermore, molecular markers can be used to identify Fusarium head blight resistance, which is linked with the two-rowed or six-rowed gene.

  • Patent number: 7518051
Abstract: An improved method and apparatus are disclosed to permit real time, distributed performance by multiple musicians at remote locations, and for recording that collaboration. The latency of the communication channel is transferred to the behavior of the local instrument so that a natural accommodation is made by the musician. This allows musical events that actually occur simultaneously at remote locations to be played together at each location, though not necessarily simultaneously at all locations. This allows locations having low latency connections to retain some of their advantage. Artifacts resulting from an unreliable communication channel, for instance dropouts and jitter, are eliminated in the recorded performance. Limitations of communications bandwidth are managed in real time, with full fidelity restored in the recording.

Abstract: Beat matching for two audio streams extracts beats from each, computes a conversion ratio from one stream to the other stream by an initial beat alignment plus a stability-maintaining beat alignment. A variable resampling converter or time scale modifier adjusts one stream to align beats with those of the other (reference) stream. Thus for cross-fading two music streams the beats of the fading-in stream can be matched to those of the fading-out stream for a seamless transition.

Abstract: A wire distribution system comprises a support structure having a first wall terminating in a first flange and a second wall terminating in a second flange. The second flange may be spaced apart from the first flange and provide a web section formed therebetween. The web section has an outer surface and an inner surface, wherein the outer surface defines an abutment to a mating structure, such as a wall, door, or window. The inner surface further defines a part of an inner cavity, and further includes a conduit channel formed therein. The conduit channel has an at least one wall section extending into the inner cavity and further includes an open leg facing the mating structure. An aperture is formed in the support structure first side and is oriented substantially adjacent to the conduit channel. A receptacle extends into the aperture and defines an interior space.

Abstract: A recessed electrical box with a closeable cover member and at least one outward extending flange. The flange serves as a positioning arrangement to recess the electrical box at the correct depth with respect to the surface in which it will be mounted. The recessed electrical box is comprised of two pieces, including a one-piece electrical box and a one-piece cover member. An inner flange may be included for positioning the recessed electrical box with respect to the outer surface of the substrate on an unfinished building. The inner flange is removable to facilitate installation on a finished building, in which the finish layer such as siding or stucco is installed. The recessed electrical box may include a second, outer flange, for recessing the box at the correct depth with respect to a wall surface.

  • Patent number: 7518063
Abstract: A power cord with leakage current detection function includes three copper wires for carrying power and at least one leakage current detection conductor for detecting leakage current. Each copper wire is surrounded by an insulating layer. At least two of the insulating layers are each surrounded by a metal conductive layer. The leakage current detection conductor is adjacent and in electrical contact with the two metal conductive layers. An outer insulating layer encloses the three wires and the leakage current detection conductor. The metal conductive layers are made of a thin copper foil, tin foil, aluminum foil, or conductive rubber. The leakage current detection conductor may be formed of copper wires or aluminum wires. Such a power cord provides low cost and reliability, and can quickly and accurately detect leakage current in the cord.
