Abstract: Air or gas cleaners enhance the uniformity of the current density between an emitter and one or more receptor electrodes by positioning one or more insulators or effective resistors between the emitter and the receptor electrode. Insulators and/or effective resistors are used to shield select portions, e.g. the edges of plate-type receptor electrodes, from ionization current flowing between an emitter and unshielded portions. This allows more compact structures without ionization current concentrations at the shielded regions, and results in lower ozone generation for a given particle collection efficiency.

Abstract: A process for manufacturing concrete bodies at elevated temperatures including the steps of providing pre-selected amounts of cement, aggregate and water where the temperature of at least the aggregate and more likely the cement and water are heated to a temperature between about 32° C. and 45° C. The heated amounts of cement, aggregate and water are mixed at an elevated temperature within the aforementioned range and a set retarding, water reducing admixture added. The mixing is continued and the hot mixture including the set retarding, water reducing admixture is cast at an elevated temperature within the same range to provide a concrete body form or structure with improved short and long-term compressive strengths.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing concrete bodies or forms containing electric arc furnace dust in an amount of up to about 4% at elevated temperatures to provide concrete bodies is disclosed. The concrete bodies have improved compressive strength and slump retention capability. The method for producing the bodies includes the steps of providing pre-selected amounts of electric arc furnace dust, water, cement and aggregate. The electric arc furnace dust is mixed with water and then added to the cement and aggregate and mixed together at a temperature of about 32° C. and 45° C. to form a hot mixture. The hot mixture is added to a mold and cast at an elevated temperature to form a body with improved strength and slump retention characteristics.

Abstract: A combustion chamber (10) for burning solid fuels having a high volatiles content has a hollow body (11) with a cylindrical wall section (12) and a top section (13) located at end (14) of the cylindrical wall section (12). The hollow body (11) has a primary air inlet (20), a fuel inlet (23) and four volatiles outlets (25) (one shown), mounted therein. Each volatiles outlet (25) has a plurality of apertures (26) of differing sizes arranged in a plate (27). In use, the burning volatiles exit the apertures (26) in a turbulent flow resulting in efficient combustion of the volatiles. Additionally, a heat transferring surface (33) on a water jacket (32) is shaped around the combustion chamber (10) so as to define a channel (34) there between. This arrangement results in an efficient transfer of heat from the turbulent flow of volatiles, which is forced to circulate around the channel (34).

Abstract: A method of seed planting in a “serpentine” pattern called the wave planter is demonstrated. It consists of a means that essentially results in equally spaced rows placed in a serpentine-like layout or wave instead of a straight row. The preferred method creates a wave pattern equidistant from the next, yet creates a substantial increase over the density of straight row planting devices and drills (eg parallel, essentially straight rows). The use of the wave pattern provide concrete and substantial benefits to the business and economics of farming through labor, energy, and maintenance savings over current planting methods which results in a new farming business method. The method may be accomplished by several devices. Some of the devices include an oscillating draw Bar planter; oscillating tongue planter; elliptical row opener; steerable undercarriage for the planter and castor row openers under undercarriage.
