Abstract: A tie back receptacle extension includes a stinger having a smooth bore latch assembly carried thereon which includes a wedge device and a ramp, and the ramp outwardly displaces the wedge device to secure the stinger within a substantially smooth bore. A smoothbore latch assembly includes a spiral wound spring received in a recess, and the recess and the spring extending circumferentially relative to a stinger. A ramp outwardly displaces the spring relative to the recess in response to displacement of the spring relative to the ramp. A method of securing a stinger within a substantially smooth bore includes: providing a latch assembly on the stinger; inserting the stinger into the bore; and engaging the latch assembly with the bore, thereby securing the stinger relative to the bore, without the latch assembly engaging any recess formed in the bore.

Abstract: The expandable casing packing element systems for cased and open-hole wellbores include an expandable casing member having a sealing device comprising a sealing element disposed between at least two retainer rings. In one embodiment, both retainer rings have flat cross-sections and the sealing element is forced radially outward by the expansion of the expandable casing against the two retainer rings such that the sealing element protrudes outwardly beyond the retainer rings and engages the wall of a wellbore in three locations. In another embodiment, both of the two retainer rings include flares that extend outwardly from the body of the expandable casing to which they are attached. As the expandable casing is expanded, the flares are forced inward to compress the sealing element which is then extruded radially outward through a gap between the two retainer rings to engage and seal off the wellbore.

Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and systems for optimizing the design of a bottomhole assembly, a reamer tool or other component of the bottomhole assembly, and/or drilling parameters of the bottomhole assembly. The method may include placing electronic modules in pockets of or adjacent to the reamer tool; reaming a borehole with the reamer tool while the modules record and store data for later retrieval; and then retrieving the data from the modules to optimize the design of the reamer tool. The modules may record vibration along three axis. The reamer tool may be a concentric reamer, an eccentric reamer, or virtually any type of reamer known in the art. In some embodiments, the bottomhole assembly may utilize a roller cone or drag bit below the reamer tool as a pilot bit.

Abstract: A method for supplying a jet of abrasive fluid for the purpose of providing a borehole by removing earth formation material through abrasion comprises a drill string and a drilling assembly connected to the drill string. The drilling assembly comprises a jetting device with a mixing space, a drilling fluid, a particle inlet, an abrasive fluid outlet for discharging a mixture of drilling fluid and magnetic particles, and a magnetic particle circulation system comprising a supporting surface which is exposed to a return stream along the drilling assembly. The method includes fixing a magnetic device with respect to the supporting surface, selecting a magnetic field density that which increases along the sloping supporting surface, attracting magnetic particles onto the supporting surface, and making the magnetic particles move over the sloping supporting surface (under the influence of the magnetic field of the magnetic device.

Abstract: A system and method for increasing hydrocarbon production from a subsurface reservoir by utilizing an intersection of two well bores and a flexible linear cutting device, such as a segmented diamond wire saw, to form a fissure beginning at the intersection of the well bores and extending along a specified the length of the well bores. The ends of the cutting device can be actuated above ground. The shape of the fissure can be a substantially ruled surface defined between the two bores between which the fissure is formed. Configurations for the well bores include both bores extending from the surface and, alternatively, a first bore extending from the surface and a second bore extending from a whipstock in the first bore. The fissure may be located and oriented to maximize the extent of the fissure formed within the hydrocarbon bearing horizon and to intersect with a maximum number of natural and/or previously formed fractures.

Abstract: An exemplary embodiment of the jet motor includes a control sleeve, and power shaft having at least one opening thereon. The power shaft is rotatable in relation to the control sleeve. The power shaft has a central longitudinal shaft axis and upper and lower ends. The at least one opening in the power shaft generates rotational torque when acting in cooperation with the control sleeve. The jet motor connects to a member that is in fluid communication with the source of drilling or cleaning fluid. Drilling or cleaning fluid pressure is directed to the at least one opening in the power shaft. The power shaft having at least one opening having an opening axis and an interior opening. The at least one opening may be acutely oriented with respect to a plane extending along the power shaft's central longitudinal axis wherein the plane intersects the opening axis at the interior opening. The at least one opening may be oriented toward the upper end of the power shaft to provide downward force.

Abstract: A turbine matrix sleeve in accordance with the invention includes an inner cylindrical structure made up of a first material. The inner cylindrical structure may include multiple blades and multiple channels running between the blades along an outside diameter thereof. The inner cylindrical structure further includes threads, such as right-hand or left-hand threads, on an outer surface thereof. An outer layer, made up of a second material different from the first material, is integrally bonded to the threads. This outer layer may be optionally embedded with hardened inserts or buttons, such as PDC inserts, diamond inserts, TSP inserts, or the like. The threaded surface on the inner cylindrical structure significantly improves the bond between the outer layer and the inner cylindrical structure and creates a mechanical lock therebetween.
