The cap has an upper segment separated from a lower segment by a bending joint defined by at least one groove which extends substantially across the cap. The upper segment and the lower segment are separately fixed to the protective insert by stitching. The upper segment and the lower segment have an outwardly projecting flange which overlies the protective insert, the flange having portions which engage the front layer of the garment between the cap flange and the protective insert. A slot in the insert ventilates through the front layer.

This combined stall provides more consistent release and reduces finger pinch compared to gloves with plural stalls for contiguous fingers. The device, worn like a glove, provides more convenience and protection than finger tabs. Abstract: There are disclosed fire resistant threads and fabrics comprising an intimate blend of natural and synthetic fibers. In embodiments the blends may comprise between 50% and about 98% of the natural fibers. The fabrics disclosed may further comprise conductive and/or strengthening filaments which may be disposed on one side of the fabric. The fabrics may have a reduced surface resistance and may be formed into garments. Methods for making the threads and fabrics are also disclosed.

Abstract: A closing apparatus is provided for automatically closing a toilet seat assembly adapted for mounting to a top ledge of a toilet bowl. Embodiments of the closing apparatus include an actuator for automatically rotating the toilet seat assembly between open and closed positions. The closing apparatus may also include one or more dampers for resisting the rotational movement of the toilet seat assembly so as to extend the closing rotation of the toilet seat assembly over a desired delay period. In other embodiments, the respective centers of gravity of a seat and a lid of the toilet seat assembly may be positioned with respect to a hinge axis of the toilet seat assembly in a manner that causes the seat or the seat and the lid to automatically close via gravitational torque when released in the open position. The closure apparatus may also include a simplified latch mechanism for selectively restraining the toilet seat assembly in an open position.

Abstract: A simplified apparatus for allowing hands-free raising and lowering of a toilet seat. In a preferred embodiment, the toilet seat actuating apparatus includes a ‘U’ shaped foot operated level which when depressed by a user, pivots about a fulcrum and raises the toilet seat via left and right linkages. The fulcrum is formed by a bracket assembly that mounts in between the porcelain throne and the seat. The apparatus is devoid of actuators, dampers, and other cumbersome or costly components that are employed on the toilet seat operating devices of prior art.

Abstract: A urinal apparatus for a commode converts the commode into a temporary urinal. Upon its first motion activation by a standing user, a reversible jaw moves forward and holds a biodegradable funnel against an end plate of a movable arm. Simultaneously, the reversible jaw pushes first switch causing the movable arm to move forward dispensing and suspending the funnel above the commode bowl. The user urinates through the funnel, which channels the urine down into the commode bowl preventing urine spillage around the commode. When through urinating, and second motion activation by the user, the reversible jaw moves backward releasing the used funnel, which drops into the commode bowl. Immediately following, the reversible jaw pushes second switch causing the movable arm to retract into the apparatus leaving the commode to perform its original function unimpeded. Flushing drains away used funnel in sewage system served by the commode where it degrades.

Abstract: A combination bathtub and spa includes a tub enclosure that is adapted to contain a quantity of water, a drain having a drain valve that may be opened to drain water from the tub enclosure or closed to retain water therein, a supply system for supplying water to the tub enclosure, and a lid that is adapted to removably cover the tub enclosure. The combination bathtub and spa also includes a pump having an inlet and an outlet, a suction line that provides a path for water from the tub enclosure to the inlet of the pump, a jet nozzle that is located in the sidewall of the tub enclosure, and a jet nozzle supply line that provides a path for water from the outlet of the pump to the jet nozzle. A filter is provided to filter the water that flows into the tub enclosure, as well as a heater for heating the water that flows into the tub enclosure. A control valve is adapted to open to allow water to flow through the filter or to close to stop the flow of water through the filter.

Abstract: The bed with automatic mattress lifting system is a bed with a frame and an internal drive system for raising a mattress above the frame, allowing the user to easily change the sheets or other bed coverings. The mattress rests on a mattress supporting platform, which, in the lowered position, is received within the frame. In operation, driven motion of an internal rod caused by a drive system located within the frame generates rotation in a lever arm. The lever arm is secured to a shaft that extends across the frame, and rotation of the shaft causes a pair of supports to rotate. Upper ends of the supports are joined to a lower surface of the mattress supporting platform, thus driving upward movement of the mattress supporting platform. The sheets cover both the mattress and the platform, allowing the sheets to be changed without having to manually lift the mattress.

The motorcycle ramp includes a fixed or moveable resting platform that receives and secures a rear wheel of the motorcycle, thereby preventing gravity from causing the motorcycle to roll uncontrolled down the ramp. When the rear wheel is resting on the platform, the person pushing the motorcycle up or down the ramp is more easily able to climb to and from the elevated surface, as the individual only needs to steady the motorcycle against sideways motion and needs not worry about backward motion down the ramp. The person is commonly able to prevent unwanted sideways motion using a single hand, freeing the person's other hand to assist in climbing up to or down from the elevated surface.
