Abstract: A centrifugal particle separator is provided for removing particles such as microscopic dirt or dust particles from the compressed cooling air prior to reaching and cooling the turbine blades or turbine vanes of a turbine engine. The centrifugal particle separator structure has a substantially cylindrical body with an inlet arranged on a periphery of the substantially cylindrical body. Cooling air enters centrifugal particle separator through the separator inlet port having a linear velocity. When the cooling air impinges the substantially cylindrical body, the linear velocity is transformed into a rotational velocity, separating microscopic particles from the cooling air. Microscopic dust particles exit the centrifugal particle separator through a conical outlet and returned to a working medium.

Abstract: A reformation power plant generates clean electricity from carbonaceous material and high pressure CO2 which can be easily sequestered or utilized for a beneficial purpose, such as fuel production. The reformation power plant design utilizes a reformation process that reforms carbonaceous fuel with super-heated steam into a high-pressure gaseous mixture that is rich in carbon dioxide and hydrogen gas. This high-pressure gas exchanges excess heat with the incoming steam from a boiler and continues onward to a condenser. Once cooled, the high-pressure gas goes through a methanol separator, after which the CO2-rich gas is sequestered underground or beneficially re-used. The remaining hydrogen-rich gas is combusted through a gas turbine. The gas turbine provides power to a generator and also regenerative heat for the boiler. Finally, the generator converts mechanical energy into electricity, which is transferred to the electric grid.

Abstract: The process and device serve for the low-temperature separation of air in a distillation-column system includes at least one separation column. A main air stream is compressed in an air compressor at a first pressure and is then purified. A first air stream, which is formed from at least one part of the purified main air stream, is further compressed at a second pressure that is higher than the first pressure. From the further compressed first air stream, a throttling stream and a turbine stream are branched off. The throttling stream is cooled down and liquefied or pseudo-liquefied in a main heat exchanger and is then passed on to expansion equipment. The expanded throttling stream is conducted into the distillation-column system. The turbine stream is cooled down in the main heat exchanger and under an intermediate temperature of the main heat exchanger is conducted into an expansion machine.

Abstract: A device for allowing jewelry strands to be added or replaced comprising two interlocking arms, two rotating members, two knobs, and a shaft. The closed end of each interlocking arm is attached to a rotating member, the shaft extends through an aperture in each rotating member, and a knob is situated on each end of the shaft. The two interlocking arms are roughly the same size. The interlocking arms are positioned one on top of the other such that they form a closed shape when the interlocking arms are in a closed position. The rotating members rotate about the shaft, thereby causing the interlocking arms to rotate relative to one another.

Abstract: A part of a glass layer 103 disposed along a region to be fused R is irradiated with a laser beam L1, so as to form the glass layer 103 with a laser-absorbing part 108a having a high laser absorptance. Then, while using the laser-absorbing part 108a as an irradiation initiation position, the region to be fused R is irradiated therealong with a laser beam L2, so as to melt the glass layer 103 and fix the glass layer 103 onto a glass member 104. Since the irradiation initiation position for the laser beam L2 has already become the laser-absorbing part 108a, a stable region where the melting of the glass layer 103 is stable can be formed immediately from the start point for initiating the irradiation with the second laser beam or nearby. The glass member 104 is fused to a glass member 105 through the glass layer 103 having such a stable region formed throughout the region to be fused R, so as to yield a glass fusing structure 101.

Abstract: An improved and mechanically simplified blow head mechanism for blowing a parison and internally cooling the blown parison is disclosed which may be used with an I.S. machine to blow a parison to form a glass container and then internally cool the blown parison below the annealing point. The blow head mechanism has a cooling tube which supplies final blow and cooling air and which is raised or lowered by raising or lowering the blow head mechanism. The blow head mechanism supports a blow head with a pressurized cylinder which maintains the blow head in a position in engagement with the finish of a parison once initially lowered irrespective of the blow head mechanism being further lowered to lower the cooling tube into the blown parison.

Abstract: An isothermal, low pressure-based process of depositing material within a substrate has been developed and results in creating an extremely narrow reaction zone within which a more uniform and efficient deposition will occur. Sets of isothermal plasma operating conditions have been found that create a narrow deposition zone, assuring that the deposited material is clear glass rather than soot particles. The chemical delivery system, in one arrangement, utilizes rods of solid phase source material (which may otherwise be difficult to obtain in gaseous form). The operating conditions are selected such that the hot plasma does not transfer a substantial amount of heat to the substrate tube, where the presence of such heat has been found to result in vaporizing the reactant material (creating soot) and developing hot spots.

Abstract: A circular knit tubing adapted for making a wearable article has a first knitted single layer tubular portion and a second knitted single layer tubular portion separated by a junction portion. The second tubular portion is folded over the first tubular portion at a fold line in the junction portion. The first and second tubular portions are then joined together, whereby the junction portion forms a band or welt. After the band is formed, the second tubular portion is folded back to cover the band. The wearable article may be a shirt having single layer top and bottom portions with a central double welt portion for physical contact around the wearer's chest or torso. The junction portion forming the band or welt preferably is integrally knitted with the first and second tubular portions. The band or welt defines a central opening to receive an electronic or electrical device or other component.
