Publication number: 20110075557Abstract: This disclosure relates to a system and method for offloading selected data to an alternate communication network. The offloading provides another route for selected packet traffic that can relieve the burden on a mobile operator's network, such as the backhaul and core networks. As the proliferation of data rich content and increasingly more capable mobile devices has continued, the amount of data communicated over mobile operator's networks has exponentially increased. Upgrading the existing network that was designed for voice calls is not desirable or practical for many mobile operators. A offload gateway is provided that inspects packets and determines those packets to offload to an alternate network as well as providing mobility management to allow for seamless handoffs and gateway relocations.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 27, 2010Publication date: March 31, 2011Inventors: Kuntal CHOWDHURY, Mohan RANGAN, Taiwo OYEDELE, Michael DIGIORGIO, Rajeev KOODLI

Publication number: 20110075558Abstract: A modified token bucket algorithm in a rate shaper in a wireless communication network allows for the “borrowing” of tokens, creating the possibility of a token debt, or a token bucket with a negative Token Bucket Counter (TBC) value. In this modified token bucket algorithm, an incoming packet is passed along so long as the TBC is positive, even if the packet must “borrow” some tokens, driving the TBC negative. Subsequent incoming packets are stalled until the TBC reaches a positive value. The token bucket refills at a known rate; accordingly, the duration of traffic stalling, when the TBC is negative, is known. During this time, the UE is forced into DRX mode, saving battery power by not monitoring DPCCH for traffic that has been halted. The DRX, or sleep, mode may be invoked in several ways.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 8, 2010Publication date: March 31, 2011Applicant: Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (publ)Inventors: Martin Isaksson, Mats Jansson, Anders Ohlsson

Publication number: 20110075561Abstract: The present invention relates to switching technology, such Ethernet, where data switching is performed based on a collision-prone switching table (31). The invention provides a possibility to avoid difficult collision-caused flooding and makes it possible to use simple and inexpensive switching equipment, while still not having to worry about consequences of collision-caused flooding. A preferred destination list (43) is provided. This list identifies one or more preferred switching destinations (1, 11). Publication number: 20110075562Abstract: A modified token bucket algorithm in a rate shaping function of a wireless communication network allows for the “borrowing” of tokens, creating the possibility of a token debt, or a token bucket with a negative Token Bucket Counter (TBC) value. In this modified algorithm, an incoming packet is passed along so long as the TBC is positive, even if the packet must “borrow” some tokens, driving the TBC negative. Subsequent incoming packets are stalled until the TBC reaches a positive value. In one embodiment, the modified token bucket algorithm is not applied to a separate rate shaper, but rather to a queue size limiter that operates with a scheduler on a single queue. The inventive scheduler and queue size limiter deliver fewer, larger packets for transmission, allowing for more efficient packing within transmission frames (reducing or eliminating required padding), and allowing other traffic to be scheduled, thus increasing system throughput.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 22, 2010Publication date: March 31, 2011Inventors: Martin Isaksson, Magnus Hurd, Henning Wiemann

An end-to-end reliability metric is computed based on a distribution of the edge-pair reliability metric for the service edge point pairs and a threshold value.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 8, 2010Publication date: March 31, 2011Applicant: AT&T INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY I, L.P.Inventors: Wai Sum Lai, Yonatan Levy, Farhad Saheban

Publication number: 20110075587Abstract: A new method of performing interference estimation to allow the data packets to be efficiently delivered in an OFDM system. The interference estimation is performed on average over each frame for each mobile station individually in both frequency and time domains. Based on the estimated interference, the CIR can be determined by the BTS based on channel response estimates made by the BTS, or by the MS based on channel response estimates made for the uplink assuming a symmetrical channel. Numerical results show that the CIR estimation error could be very small if a sub-channel is considered as the minimum transmission unit. In terms of the aggregate throughput, the interference estimation method can provide a significant gain.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 10, 2010Publication date: March 31, 2011Inventors: JIANMING WU, Wea Tong, Peiying Zhu

Publication number: 20110075589Abstract: Methods and apparatus that enable solicited access to a secure wireless network having complex security protocols. In one embodiment, such solicited access is performed using a streamlined or reduced number of steps and includes an exemplary active/passive scanning protocol and use of an optimized service discovery protocol (SDP). Furthermore, multiple aspects of the invention are directed to improving and enhancing user experience, including a reduction of “human” interaction requirements for secure network operation (such as changing settings, entering addresses, etc.), and furthermore, integrated utilization of human readable text.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 30, 2009Publication date: March 31, 2011Inventors: Robert Bradley, Christopher B. Publication number: 20110075590Abstract: Methods and apparatus for discovering hosts on an Internet Protocol (IP) version 6 (IPv6) network are disclosed. An example implementation includes probing a network to determine an Internet Protocol (IP) version 4 (IPv4) address that is in use on the network; determining a Media Access Control (MAC) address associated with the IPv4 address; determining a local-prefix; determining a first IP version 6 (IPv6) address, the first IPv6 address including the MAC address and the local-prefix; determining a second IPv6 address, the second IPv6 address including the MAC address and the local-prefix and the second IPv6 address being different than the first IPv6 address; probing the network to determine if the first IPv6 address is in use; probing the network to determine if the second IPv6 address is in use; and storing an indication of whether at least one of the first or second IPv6 address is in use.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 30, 2009Publication date: March 31, 2011Inventors: David Kormann, William Cheswick

Publication number: 20110075591Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system for looking up location-specific configuration information for a network node or a subnet. During system operation, a network node creates a query message containing a key that comprises an Internet Protocol (IP) prefix and a string, wherein the IP prefix identifies the network node or the subnet, and the string specifies the type of configuration information. The network node then sends the query message to a name server, which is part of a distributed system that provides a global naming service, wherein the name server additionally stores configuration information. Finally, the network node receives a response message from the name server, wherein the response message contains the requested configuration information.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 7, 2010Publication date: March 31, 2011Applicant: APPLE INC.Inventor: Stuart D.
