  • Patent number: 7959494
Abstract: A blade, such as the blade of a precision shear, having a cutting angle which changes progressively along the length of the blade through a predetermined angular measure is sharpened by coupling the blade with an articulated arm assembly through a drive mechanism which rotates the blade about a longitudinal direction in response to movement of the blade along the longitudinal direction, as the blade is drawn across a sharpening surface. The drive mechanism includes a cam and follower for rotating the blade through an angular displacement corresponding to the predetermined angular measure of the change in the cutting angle so as to preserve the changing cutting angle. The drive mechanism is selectively uncoupled to permit free manual rotation of the blade as the blade is drawn across the sharpening surface for finishing the blade subsequent to the sharpening operation. The drive mechanism accommodates blades of both right-handed shears and left-handed shears.

  • Patent number: 7959504
Abstract: Disclosed herein is a game played on a gaming device that displays a randomly selected array of symbols, where the symbols across one or more paylines are evaluated by circuitry to determine an award to be granted. A trigger event, such as the occurrence of a special symbol (e.g., a $ symbol), initiates a special feature. Once the trigger event occurs, one of a plurality of features is randomly selected and applied to the symbols in the existing array of symbols, and an award is then granted based on the results. An example of the group of available features is: 1) multiply the number of $ symbols in the array by X credits; 2) randomly place a $ symbol on reels 1, 2, 4, and 5; 3) change certain predetermined symbols to the $ symbol; and 4) fill two, three, or four reels (randomly selected) with the $ symbol.

After a predetermined amount of time, the golf ball may be stuck by a golf club. A thermal imaging device, which may detect a cooling pattern imparted to the golf ball by prongs of a cooling device, is preferably used to acquire images of the temperature pattern. The acquired images may then be analyzed by a processor to determine the kinematic characteristics of the golf ball.

Abstract: One embodiment of a golf training aid that provides a visual and physical reference as to the correlational relationship between a golfers' hand-placement on a golf club and the face of the golf club at impact to provide means for the golfer to hit a straight golf shot or to shape a golf shot. Utilizing a rear sight guide (10) and a front sight (14) attached to an alignment guide rail (12) and a flexible joint or hinge (16), the gauging apparatus provides physical reference for the golfers' hand-placement and a visual reference to desired target lines. Other embodiments are described and shown.

Abstract: A golf putter includes a pair of aiming arms at each end of the putter head having opposite and inward facing arcuate surfaces corresponding to the outline of a golf hole. The aiming arms may be removed manually or may be made to pivot. In the latter, each arm is pivotally connected at opposing ends of the putter head and adapted to pivot about an axis between a forward aiming position and a second position away from the forward aiming position. Control of the rotation of the aiming arms may be by a lever operable from the putter shaft, or by a spring actuated by pushing downward on the putter shaft.

  • Patent number: 7959521
Abstract: A golf practice mat includes an impact sensor disposed in a vicinity bounding the location of where a golf ball would be placed for striking. The golf practice mat may also include, for example, a “crosshair” target imprint that is disposed on a golf club impact sensor portion of the practice surface and indicates the point/line of contact that the club face should hit the ground after the ball has been struck with the club head in a descending blow. A microcontroller receives and analyzes the output of the impact sensor and generates a display/output message that is coupled to a display that is, for example, embodied on the golf practice mat to provide user shot-related feedback. The display may indicate, for example, the user's golf club, the estimated distance the ball will travel depending upon the impact data analyzed, the club chosen by the user, input backswing data and/or a three-dimensional simulation of the resulting golf stroke.

Abstract: A hollow wood-type golf club head having an increased weight budget and improved mass characteristics at minimum structural mass is disclosed. The club head has a striking face portion, a sole portion, a skirt portion, and a crown portion having a total surface area. A hosel portion joins the club head for connecting a shaft to the club head. The crown portion has a major crown portion and a minor crown portion, the major portion having greater surface area than the minor portion, and the major portion being displaced vertically lower relative to the minor crown portion. The major crown portion may have a generally concave curvature and the minor crown portion may have a generally convex curvature such that the major crown portion is in effect inverted with respect to the minor crown portion. The major crown portion may be upwardly inclined from the heel to the toe of the head. The head may exhibit a parabolic top view silhouette.

  • Patent number: 7959524
Abstract: The present invention provides a three-piece solid golf ball having a core obtained by molding under heat a specific rubber composition and having a two-layer cover and an inner cover layer and an outer cover layer which encase the core and are made of a thermoplastic resin material. By optimizing the deflection of the core under a specific load, optimizing the combined thickness of the cover layers, forming the inner cover layer of a highly neutralized ionomer resin composition, and forming the outer cover layer of a special urethane material, a sufficient reduction in the spin rate of the ball on shots taken with a driver can be achieved, enabling the distance traveled by the ball to be increased. Moreover, the golf ball of the invention has a good feel on shots taken with a driver, and has an excellent spin rate on approach shots.

Abstract: A golf ball position marking device enables a user to reliably and unobtrusively mark the position of a golf ball on a putting green. The golf ball position marking device comprises a putting green contact surface, a marker material dispensing port, a marker material dispensing actuator and a marker material reservoir. The putting green contact surface is sized and shaped to permit stable positioning of the golf ball position marking device on a putting green in close proximity to a golf ball on the putting green thereby providing oriented alignment of the golf ball position marking device with the golf ball on the putting green. Activation of the marker material dispensing actuator results in the dispensing of a marker material from the marker material reservoir onto the putting green at a predetermined vector position relative to the point where the golf ball contacts the putting green.
