Abstract: A joint switching method for an aggregation node, an aggregation node, and an optical network protection system including an aggregation node are provided. By monitoring information transferred between an active optical line terminal (OLT) and a broadband network gateway (BNG), the aggregation node finds a fault in time according to the monitored information and when a fault occurs, the aggregation node starts a local protection solution, enables a corresponding backup port connected to a backup OLT corresponding to the active OLT, and disables an active port connected to the active OLT. Through the method, when the active OLT is switched to the backup OLT, the aggregation node performs joint switching, which ensures normal communication.

Abstract: A transmitter for a communications link is tested by using a (software) simulation of a reference channel and/or a reference receiver to test the transmitter. In one embodiment for optical fiber communications links, a data test pattern is applied to the transmitter under test and the resulting optical output is captured, for example by a sampling oscilloscope. The captured waveform is subsequently processed by the software simulation, in order to simulate propagation of the optical signal through the reference channel and/or reference receiver. A performance metric for the transmitter is calculated based on the processed waveform.

Abstract: An optical sampling arrangement for high-speed measurement of the time-varying electric field of an optical input signal utilizes coherent mixing of the optical input signal with a reference laser source in a phase-diverse optical hybrid solution, followed by optical sampling of the coherently-mixed fields at the output of the optical hybrid. The generated streams of optical samples are then detected and signal processed in order to reconstruct a sampled version of the electric field of the original optical input signal.

A polarization-multiplexed transmitter previously applies frequency shifts of frequencies +?f and ??f to X-polarization and Y-polarization digital information signals to be transmitted. Optical field modulators modulate and polarization-multiplex the signals. As a result, a frequency difference of 2?f is supplied to X-polarization and Y-polarization components. A polarization diversity coherent optical receiver 215 receives the signal. A frequency estimation portion in a digital signal processing circuit detects a frequency difference signal in both polarization components. Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes an image carrier, an image forming member, a transferer, a toner image detector, and a controller. The transferer transfers the toner image from the image carrier directly or indirectly onto a recording medium transported by a surface moving member. The toner image detector detects a test toner image formed in a test toner image detection area located at an end portion of the surface moving member. The controller checks a length of the recording medium in a main scanning direction during continuous image formation, and forms the test toner image either in a space between recording media when the length of the recording medium exceeds a length of the surface moving member minus a length of the test toner image detection area in the main scanning direction or otherwise in parallel to the toner image transferred onto the recording medium.

The overcurrent detection circuit includes a current detecting resistor, a reference voltage generation circuit, and a comparison circuit. The current detecting resistor is provided on a secondary side of a transformer. The reference voltage generation circuit generates a first reference voltage when an output voltage of the switching power supply is a first output voltage and a second reference voltage lower than the first reference voltage when the output voltage is a second output voltage. The comparison circuit detects an overcurrent by comparing a voltage across the current detecting resistor with the first reference voltage or the second reference voltage.
