  • Patent number: 8414260
Abstract: A control system and method of controlling a propeller aircraft engine during takeoff limits the amount of engine power developed at the very beginning of the takeoff in order to maximize thrust and minimize rollout distances. The control system limits the amount of power developed by the engine, even in the face of a nominal demand by the pilot for maximum engine power. Instead, the control system provides something significantly less than full power at the beginning of takeoff and gradually increases the power developed by the engine to full power as the airspeed increases. This gradual increase from partial engine power toward full power helps prevent stalling of the propeller, thereby maximizing the effectiveness of the propeller and engine in assisting the aircraft to takeoff quickly. The control system is particularly helpful for taking off from high-altitude runways.

  • Patent number: 8414264
Abstract: There is described a method with which, on the basis of a three-dimensional recording of a component to be reworked, its surface configuration can be determined and stored temporarily so that, after it has been coated, it can be produced in its original surface form, or in its surface form then required, in certain regions, i.e. locally in the area of film-cooling openings. An especially precise and quick three-dimensional recording can be achieved by the use of the triangulation method. In this case, a reference pattern depicted on the component by a projector is recorded by two camera arranged at an angle. From the images from the cameras, the coordinates describing the surface three-dimensionally can then be determined by a control system using the triangulation method.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for the pelletization of plastics and/or polymers, in which a melt coming from a melt generator is supplied via a diverter valve having different operating positions to a plurality of pelletizing heads through which the melt is pelletized. The plurality of pelletizing heads have different throughput capacities and are used sequentially for the start-up of the pelletizing process, with the melt first being supplied to a first pelletizing head having a smaller throughput capacity and then the melt volume flow being increased and the diverter valve being switched over such that the melt is diverted by the diverter valve to a second pelletizing head having a larger throughput capacity.

Abstract: One or more nozzles define separate nozzle channels. The nozzles are coupled to a manifold, so that each of the nozzle channels communicates with a different mold gate. A molding material distribution insert is coupled to the manifold and has a body defining a distribution channel and a plurality of drop channels equal in number to the nozzle channels. The distribution channel is an open distribution channel formed on an outer surface of the body and enclosed by the manifold. The drop channels intersect the distribution channel and exit the body at a different one of the nozzle channels. A valve pin bushing can extend into the drop channels. Valve pins can extend from actuators, through the valve pin bushing and the drop channels, and to the mold gates. A valve pin holder can be coupled to the actuator and coupled to heads of the valve pins.

Abstract: A combustion system comprising a combustion chamber fed by fuel and oxidant delivery lines. The oxidant line has an oxidant tank pressurized by a compressor. The fuel delivery line has a fuel source and a fuel feed mechanism. An ignition device ignites the oxidant and fuel mixture in the combustion chamber. The coolant line is adapted to inject cooling fluid directly into the combustion chamber. An energy production device is disposed downstream a combustion chamber exhaust valve for converting energy from both exhausted combustion gases and coolant gases exhausted from the combustion chamber. In some embodiments the coolant is the oxidant, while in other embodiments the coolant is another fluid introduced from a separate coolant delivery line.

Abstract: A whirlwind-type oxidation combustion apparatus for processing semiconductor fabrication exhaust gas is disclosed. An inlet head is set on the top of an exhaust gas processing tank. An exhaust gas passage is set inside the inlet head and connected to an external exhaust gas supply terminal and the exhaust gas processing tank, for guiding the exhaust gas into the exhaust gas processing tank. An ignition chamber is formed between two partitions outside the exhaust gas passage. The two partitions have multiple inclined holes interconnecting an external combustion gas supply terminal, the ignition chamber, and the exhaust gas processing tank. The inclined holes guide a combustion gas to swirl into the exhaust gas processing tank through the ignition chamber. An igniter in the ignition chamber ignites the combustion gas to form a vortex flame which burns the exhaust gas. The exhaust gas is further caused to swirl onto a water screen.

Abstract: A surgical guide to be placed in a patient's mouth. The patient's mouth is scanned to obtain surgical-region scan data at a region where an implant is to be located. The patient's mouth is also scanned in the opened position to acquire dental conditions opposite from the surgical region so as to obtain opposing-condition scan data. A virtual model is developed using the surgical-region scan data and the opposing-condition scan data. Using the virtual model, a surgical plan is developed that includes the location of the implant to be installed in the patient. A virtual surgical guide is also developed based on the surgical plan. The dimensions of instrumentation to be used with the surgical guide are checked to ensure they will fit within the mouth by use of the opposing-condition scan data. After checking, final surgical-guide manufacturing information is obtained for manufacturing the surgical guide.
