  • Patent number: 8616783
Abstract: Fiber optic assemblies including a plurality of optical fibers in a connector having a ferrule are disclosed. The ferrule has a front end face and a plurality of bores with the plurality of optical fibers being disposed within one of the respective plurality of bores. The fiber optic assemblies have the plurality of optical fibers recessed from the front end face of the ferrule by a suitable distance to inhibit physical contact of the plurality of optical fibers when mated with a complementary connection. Consequently, the fiber optic assemblies are suited for hundreds or thousands of connections and disconnections (i.e., mating cycles) with reduced susceptibility from damage and/or optical attenuation caused by dirt, debris and the like as expected with the consumer electronic/device environments.

  • Patent number: 8616790
Abstract: When communication is made between a camera and an interchangeable lens by a conventional synchronization method, an operation for checking Busy is required between communications, and operating performances of the camera and interchangeable lens may not be occasionally improved. Provided is a camera and interchangeable lens system in which a communication method between a camera and an interchangeable lens can be changed to one of synchronous communication and asynchronous communication. The synchronous communication is made first while the camera serves as a master. The camera measures a time interval of a signal pulse output from the lens at a predetermined time interval in response to a command from the camera to the interchangeable lens for change of the communication to the asynchronous communication. The camera determines a baud rate for the asynchronous communication and then changes the communication method between the camera and the interchangeable lens to the asynchronous communication.

  • Patent number: 8616794
Abstract: In a printer that prints to continuous paper, starting to backfeed the recording paper for printing the next print job before the user cuts the previously printed page can be prevented. The printer prints while conveying recording paper delivered from fanfold paper through a transportation path, and after printing cuts the recording paper using a cutter disposed near the paper exit. When printing ends, the control unit positions the perforation at the trailing end of the printed page to a cutting position, and sets a tear-off state holding the recording paper where positioning was completed. When new print data is received while in the tear-off state, the recording paper transportation operation is prohibited and the tear-off state is continued until a preset delay time passes. When the delay time has passed, the recording paper is immediately fed back and indexed for the next print job.

  • Patent number: 8616800
Abstract: A ball joint and production method thereof that ensure that grease retainers are provided on the entire contact surface of a resin sheet between an outer surface of a round head of a ball stud and the contact surface to properly maintain lubrication between the round head and the resin sheet. Graphite particles are dispersed over an inner surface of the resin sheet, and the resin sheet and the round head of the ball stud are inserted in a housing. An open end portion of a housing body is swaged to be reduced in diameter. The graphite particles are pressed against the inner surface of the resin sheet, whereby portions of the inner surface of the resin sheet against which the graphite particles abut are depressed. • Patent number: 8616818
Abstract: A gripping washer includes a washer body having first and second rigid support surfaces. A fastener hole extends between the first and second rigid support surfaces. An inner washer perimeter extends around the fastener hole. One or more elastomeric gripping tabs are coupled with the inner washer perimeter. The one or more elastomeric gripping tabs extend inwardly into the fastener hole from the inner washer perimeter. The elastomeric gripping tabs are pliable relative to the first and second rigid support surfaces of the washer body and deform and grip the washer with a fastener passed through the fastener hole. By gripping a fastener with the elastomeric gripping tabs the gripping washer is anchored to the fastener and substantially prevents decoupling of the gripping washer from the fastener prior to installation (e.g., fastening with a work piece). Gripping of the fastener with the gripping washer thereby minimizes foreign object debris.

  • Patent number: 8616826
Abstract: A vehicle restraint restricts the movement of a vehicle at a loading dock by engaging the vehicle's RIG (rear impact guard). The vehicle restraint includes a barrier carried by a vertically translatable track follower, the barrier being driven by a motor or some other type of power unit. A RIG sensor detects the RIG's horizontal position relative to the barrier and can periodically energize the motor to maintain the barrier in generally continuous contact with the RIG, even if the RIG moves horizontally away from the barrier. Detection of such horizontal movement of the RIG triggers the barrier to move accordingly to reduce a horizontal gap that may have formed between the RIG and the barrier.

Abstract: A system for adjusting a clearance between blade tips of a turbine and a shroud assembly encircling the turbine in a turbine engine is disclosed herein. The system includes a first fluid passageway operable to extend from a first source of fluid at a variable pressure to a shroud assembly of a turbine engine. The first fluid passageway directs a first stream of fluid to the shroud assembly. The system also includes a first valve positioned along the first fluid passageway and moveable between open and closed configurations. The first valve is biased to the open configuration and moved to the closed configuration passively and directly by a first predetermined level of pressure of the first stream of fluid. During periods of relatively low power production of the turbine engine, the first valve is in the open configuration and moves to the closed configuration when power production of the turbine engine increases from relatively low power production.
