Abstract: A vehicle wheel is detected by emitting a measuring beam, recording frequencies of a reflected measuring beam over time as a received signal, and detecting a change in the received signal as a wheel. The vehicle comprises an onboard unit that stores information that indicates the vehicle length at least indirectly. The information is read from the onboard unit by a radio communication and the speed of the vehicle is measured. The duration of the passage of the vehicle passing a detector unit is computed based on this information and the speed. A time window in the received signal is determined that shows an approximately constant change of the received signal over the aforementioned duration. A spurious signal component is determined in a segment of the received signal that immediately precedes the time window. The received signal in the time window is compensated by the spurious signal component.

Abstract: An approach detector (20) detects the range in which a conflict will occur between an aircraft whose route is being searched and all other aircrafts on the basis of flight information acquired by a flight information acquirer (10). A first position detector (30) detects the position furthest from a position of entry in controlled airspace that the aircraft whose route is being searched can navigate to until the occurrence of the conflict. A second position detector (40), if the aircraft whose route is being searched maintains an altitude other than a set altitude, detects a position closest to a position of entry into controlled airspace that is beyond the position to which the altitude was changed from the set altitude, and that allows withdrawal from controlled airspace without the occurrence of the conflict.

Abstract: A method for efficiently computing a hash value for a string is disclosed. In one embodiment, such a method includes receiving an original string comprising multiple characters. The method computes an original hash value for the original string. The method produces an updated string by performing at least one of the following updates on the original string: adding leading/trailing characters to the original string; removing leading/trailing characters from the original string, and modifying characters of the original string while preserving the length of the original string. The method then computes an updated hash value for the updated string by performing at least one operation on the original hash value, wherein the at least one operation takes into account the updates that were made to the original string. A corresponding apparatus and computer program product are also disclosed.

Abstract: A dipole based decoy system provides an inexpensive alternative to chaff. A non-conductive filament patterned with lengths of conductive material that form dipole antennas at one or more radar frequencies is stored on the air vehicle and attached to a projectile. In response to a RWR warning, a programmed time or location or a time-to-target, a mechanism releases the projectile(s) to deploy the filament with its dipole antennas at a speed greater than or equal to the speed of the air vehicle to present an extended target or a separate false target to enemy radar. The projectile is either towed behind the air vehicle or launched away from the air vehicle. Either approach is effective to overcome Doppler and moving range gating by presenting coherent signal returns and ranges and velocities consistent with the air vehicle during a threat interval posed by the radar defense systems.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for separating, or de-interleaving, a stream of radar pulses, interleaved in time, received by a receiving antenna (10) and receiver (12) from several radar sources. De-interleaving the stream of received pulses may include forming clusters of pulses having similar parameter values around anchor points, where each cluster is defined by a window around its anchor point. The dimensions of each window may be determined by a weighted distance, i.e., a measure of dissimilarity, calculated using weights. Each weight may depend inversely on the measurement error in the parameter with which the weight is associated. Each anchor point may have a set of weights adjusted to its parameter values, and which may change as operating conditions change. The weights may be determined using a method including a calibration step, which may include injecting pulses with known parameters into the receiver (12).

Abstract: A method and apparatus are present for creating a negative index metamaterial lens for use with a phased array antenna. A design having a buckyball shape is created for the negative index metamaterial lens. The buckyball shape is capable of bending a beam generated by the phased array antenna to around 90 degrees from a vertical orientation to form an initial design. The initial design is modified to include discrete components to form a discrete design. Materials are selected for the discrete components. Negative index metamaterial unit cells are designed for the discrete components to form designed negative index metamaterial unit cells. The designed negative index metamaterial unit cells are fabricated to form fabricated designed negative index metamaterial unit cells. The negative index metamaterial lens is formed from the designed negative index metamaterial unit cells.

The antenna assembly includes a base board, a feed member electronically connecting with the base board to carry an electrical current, and a radio member including a first radio portion, the first radio portion defining a first slot. The radiator couples with the feed member, inducing an electrical current in the first radio portion. The radio member is electronically connected to the base board through the metal housing, enabling the induced electrical current to flow through the first radio portion, the metal housing, and the base board to form a current loop. The induced electrical current flows through the first slot to excite a first resonance mode, enabling the antenna assembly to receive/transmit a first wireless signal.

In the first slot, the spacing between the first radiating portion and the signal ground portion is not less than a first distance. In the second slot, the spacing between the second radiating portion and the signal ground portion is not less than a second distance. Thus, the voltage standing wave ratio of the antenna within a frequency band is less than a threshold.
