Abstract: An apparatus and method is disclosed for analyzing a surface. An image capturing device (ICD) and a light source may be supported on a frame-like structure fixedly relative to each other. The light source may direct substantially parallel light rays at the surface at an angle ? relative to the surface, which are reflected off of the surface as reflected light rays as the light source and the ICD are moved relative to the surface. The ICD has a view axis disposed at an angle a relative to the surface, and operates to capture only light rays that are reflected along angle ?, which form an image. The image provides an indication of a characteristic of the surface.

Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for detecting stationary presence using IR sensor data. A number of IR images may be captured based on IR sensor data and these IR images may be averaged over various time intervals to calculate a number of average IR frames. The difference between these average IR frames provides a delta frame. A mask frame may be calculated as the summation of delta frames over time, and the value of the mask frame may be used to detect a stationary human presence even when no delta value is calculated. Alternatively, the mask frame may be used to calculate a background frame that represents the IR signature of stationary or cyclical objects within the scanned area that are not intended to trigger the presence detection system. A stationary presence may be determined by subtracting the background frame from a current average IR frame.

Abstract: Information about link relations between cameras is to be accurately and readily acquired. The surveillance areas of cameras registered on a map having a surveillance region set thereon are projected onto the map. The shortest paths between the cameras registered on the map are searched for. Links between the cameras are determined based on the surveillance areas of the cameras projected on the map and the shortest paths between the cameras detected on the map. Unlike a conventional technique by which link information is manually acquired, this technique does not require a surveillance object to walk around so as to be actually captured by all the cameras, and can be applied even in a case where there is congestion in the surveillance region. Accordingly, the load on the user can be reduced.

Abstract: In an apparatus according to one embodiment of the present invention, a video system is disclosed. The video system comprises a pre-processing module, an auto-exposure module, and an image sensor. The image sensor is operable to simultaneously capture a first image at a long exposure and a second image at a short exposure capture. The auto-exposure module is operable to determine an average brightness of a scene for video/image capturing, wherein the determined brightness achieves a desired image quality. The auto-exposure module is further operable to select a dynamic range necessary to preserve desired details in a captured scene. The auto-exposure module is further operable to instruct the image sensor to capture the first image and the second image with a selected exposure ratio to achieve the desired dynamic range. The pre-processing module is operable to combine the first image and the second image into a final image with the desired dynamic range.
