  • Patent number: 5406883
Abstract: A process is proposed for the dewatering of compressibly dewaterable materials, in particular waste from the processing of paper material, which enables a very high degree of dewatering so that the waste can be readily disposed of, e.g. dumped. For this purpose, the material to be dewatered is initially pre-dewatered by gravity, and usually also by compression, in a transportation section (5). This pre-dewatering can take place in a continually operating feed section (7) through a perforated sieve jacket (10). The material then reaches a press section (6) in which a discontinuously working pressing device is in operation. Further improvements in the dewatering performance are possible by various embodiments of the corresponding pressing elements (13,14). The invention relates to both the process and the device for implemention of the process.

  • Patent number: 4901635
Abstract: An extruder for treating high-oil-content material such as certain oilseeds, is used to prepare the material for later solvent extraction of oil from the material. The extruder has an elongate barrel and a rotating wormshaft therein which advances the material from an inlet hopper to a discharge die plate having at least one restricted orifice. As the material advances through a series of compaction worms, it is worked and compressed. Steam may be injected to raise the temperature and moisture content of the material. The pressure on the material is increased and is maintained sufficiently high so as to prevent any water content from vaporizing even if its vapor pressure significantly exceeds atmospheric pressure. The barrel wall includes a perforate or slotted section downstream from a solid wall section, and preferably immediately before or close to the discharge die plate.

  • Patent number: 4871449
Abstract: Discloses transportable liquid clarifying and screw conveyor/compactor liquid-solid separator apparatus which includes a pressureable clarifier vessel portably mounted on a base with a top and sides converging to the bottom of the vessel for attachment to a sludge disposal apparatus. A sludge inlet enters the top of the vessel and extends to near the bottom of the vessel. An effluent discharge flow control valve is connected through a conduit in the top of the vessel to provide a designated back pressure within the vessel while controlling the discharge flow of effluent liquid from the vessel. The sludge disposal apparatus includes an elongated screw conveyor/compactor mounted at an angle and extending upwardly from the vessel bottom. The compactor housing is tapered to compact the sludge as the screw conveyor carries the sludge to a liquid extraction section. The liquid extraction section has a screen tapered to further compact the slurry while extracting liquid being forced out of the slurry.

  • Patent number: 4848223
Abstract: A drainage system for expressing liquids and fluids from fibrous materials. The system includes a plurality of spaced apart compression elements each retained in juxaposition one to another so as to have a fluid escape slot between each adjacent compression element. Each compression element has a longitudinal passageway therethrough each having an inlet and an outlet which is inwardly tapered toward its outlet. The combination of passageways through each compression element forms a compression conduit whose inlet and outlet generally functionally coincide with the intake and exit, respectively, of the drainage system. The fibrous material to be expressed is introduced into the system's intake under pressure, the fibrous material being compressed as it is forcably urged through each tapered passageway, the expressed fluids exiting the compression conduit radially outwardly through fluid escape slots.

  • Patent number: 4779528
Abstract: An apparatus for the compaction and reduction of liquid content in a material includes at least one floating helix (3) rotatable about its axis by drive means (4, 30) and disposed in a casing (2) which, at least along a portion of its extent in the longitudinal direction, completely encloses the helix. In conjunction with the discharge portion of the apparatus, the casing encloses the helix with slight play. Seen in the direction of movement of the material, the discharge portion includes a helix-free region most proximal the discharge opening of the casing, intended for the formation of a counterpressure member which arrests the movement of the material. In this region, the helix is provided with an extension body (100) which reduces the available conveyor surface area. As a rule, the body is a cylindrical hollow body which as a rule is provided with drainage apertures.

Abstract: Shaped ammunication for tubular weapons in the form of nitrocellulose-based combustible cartridge cases are continuously produced in a screw extruder from an aqueous suspension, stabilizers, flammable fibrous material, binders and optionally plasticizers being supplied to the suspension. The fibre-like constituents are matted in kneading and pressing zones, accompanied by the simultaneous squeezing out of the water, being shaped to an endless tubular structure, which is then cut to the length of the individual cartridge cases and is optionally also pressed to the desired dimensions and shape. Advantageously use is made of a double shaft screw extruder with kneading and pressing segments, as well as a water outlet, which is provided at its end with a tubular die. A following pressing and cutting to length means is arranged behind the extruder.
