Platen Level Compensating Patents (Class 100/258R)
  • Patent number: 6019154
Abstract: A manufacturing process, such as that used for ultrasonic welding, employs a self-leveling fixture (20) including a base (12) and an operation stage (14) that are separated by leveling devices (16) and 18). The leveling devices include a centrally located spherical plane bearing (16) and one or more spring members (18) disposed about the periphery of the operation stage. In this way, the operation stage can react in response to pressure applied thereto complying to the applied pressure, thus providing a realistic self-leveling feature. After the pressure is removed, the return to a normal position via the spring action of spring (18).

  • Patent number: 5426966
Abstract: The press brake comprises a pressure ram member which is driven by two operating cylinders engaging the pressure ram member in the region of its two lateral ends. The pressure ram member has an upper and a lower portion which abut against each other in a central contact area and which are separated from each other by two gaps each running from the central contact area to the lateral ends, whereby the gap width continuously increases. Under load, the lower portion of the pressure ram member and the stationary ram member are deflected in the same sense. The degree of free deflection of the lower portion of the pressure ram member is limited by an adjustably mounted wedge member located in the gaps between the upper and lower portions of the pressure ram member. With this measure, the parallelism of the deflection lines is always maintained, even under extreme load situations.

  • Patent number: 5179879
Abstract: The invention concerns a process for regulating the parallelism of two beams of a cutting press designed for converting sheet or weblike matter into a package. The press comprises a frame made of a lower crossbar and an upper crossbar, connected to one another by means of lateral posts. An upper beam is fitted on the upper crossbar. A lower movable beam is raised and lowered with each operating cycle by means of a drive system supported by the lower crossbar by means of bearings. The bearings can be shifted vertically when the drive system is situated in a lower dead center position in such a way as to regulate the parallelism of the lower beam with regard to the upper beam. When the press accomplishes its operating cycle, a deviation e from parallelism is measured when the drive system is situated in an upper dead center position.

Abstract: A hydraulic press for compacting materials with a large platen area has a platen support comprising of four hydraulic cylinders, one at each corner of a rectangular or square shaped platen. The cylinders are supplied with near equal fluid flows from commercially available hydraulic flow dividers. When an off-centered platen loading is encountered, the cylinders will respond with a higher restraining force from the cylinders nearest the load with relatively small bending moments transferred to the cylinder rods. The resulting platen structural load resembles a beam supported with pinned connections. The resulting press capacity can be significantly higher than that achievable with guided type platen supports of similar costs where the bending moment is restrained by the stiffness of the guides.
