  • Patent number: 5701824
Abstract: A trolley having a top member and a base member that are releasably coupled together without the use of a separate fastener. The top member has a top connecting portion with a top locking element, and the base member has a base connecting portion slidably engaging the top connecting portion. The base connecting portion has a base locking element hinged thereon and releasably engaging the top locking element for releasably locking the top and base members. To unlock the top and base members, and allow them to freely slide relative to one another, a screwdriver can be used to bias the base locking element away from the top locking element. The base member further has a portion for attaching a holding device. The top and base members define a through passageway that receives an elongated support therein and has rollers for allowing the trolley to move along the support.

  • Patent number: 5664502
Abstract: Wheel assembly capable of maintaining engagement with a rail having an uneven portion therein. The wheel assembly includes a frame adapted to pivot about a pivot axis defined by the frame. At least one wheel is rotatably connected to the frame for traversing the rail. The wheel maintains engagement with the rail as the wheel traverses the uneven portion of the rail because the frame pivots about the pivot axis as the wheel encounters the uneven portion of the rail. Service tooling may be suspended from the wheel assembly to service a nuclear reactor pressure vessel located below the rail.

The track section comprises a substantially hollow, vertical support member terminating at an upper end in an upper transverse leg defining upper wheel bearing surfaces on each side of the support, and terminating at a base end in a transversely extending base leg defining lower wheel bearing surfaces on each side of the vertical support. The upper and lower wheel bearing surfaces are angled to trap upper and lower wheel assemblies on a trolley in a torsionally stable mounting arrangement. The spacing of the upper wheel bearing surfaces is less than that of the lower wheel bearing surfaces, such that removal of the upper wheel assemblies allows the entire trolley to be lifted vertically off the track section with clearance for the lower wheel assemblies.

  • Patent number: 5213045
Abstract: A bottom flange running gear of a monorail has load-bearing running wheels on both sides of a preferably I-shaped running rail. Such a running gear has front and rear lateral guide rollers mounted on preferably vertical axles and in contact with the running rail. A preferably unilateral or one-sided load may be applied to the running gear, preferably by a traction motor. The invention proposes that at least one supporting roller carrier, preferably on the sidepiece of the running gear opposite the traction motor, can be linked coaxially to the axle of one of the guide rollers. The invention further proposes that a supplemental guide roller can be in contact, preferably under the force of a laterally positioned spring on the running rail, against the edge of the bottom flange of the running rail. • Patent number: 5154122
Abstract: A device for shipping suspensible piece goods has an elongated trolley which can travel along an overhead rail. A rod is fixed to either longitudinal end of the trolley and depends from the latter. The end of each rod remote from the trolley has an upwardly open hook-shaped portion. A carrier is removably suspended on the hook-shaped portions and has a cutout which allows goods to be suspended from the carrier. Once the carrier has been loaded, the entire shipping device can be placed in a truck for transport as a unit. A downwardly open hook-shaped element projects laterally of the carrier from the hook-shaped portion of each rod. These hook-shaped elements can be used to suspend the shipping device from a bar in the truck. Since the hook-shaped elements are located laterally of the carrier, the shipping device tilts to one side when it is suspended from the bar. The shipping device and its suspended goods then take up less room in the vertical direction thereby increasing the loading capacity of the truck.

The drive motor and propeller are coupled to the frame of a carrier by a slip rail assembly, and to the bearing assembly by a shock absorbing telescoping linkage, such that drive force is first transmitted to the bearing assembly, rather than the frame.

Several support rolls engage both sides of the vertical web of the rail. The bus bar is connected to the side of the vertical web of the rail facing away from the drive wheel.

Abstract: The drive motor of a vehicle running on an overhead rail and being drivingly coupled thereto through a drive wheel is selectively connected to and disconnected from that wheel through a coupling mechanism which is constructed for obtaining coupling and disconnection through axial movement, being in turn obtained through rotational adjustment under utilization of a control disk having axially extending pins and being part of the vehicle equipment but cooperating with stationary actuating pieces arranged along the track in appropriate positions to obtain selective connection and disconnection of the drive shaft by engaging these pins and turning the coupling mechanism in one direction or the other.

  • Patent number: 4563955
Abstract: Chairlift or gondola lift with a carriage supporting a gondola or a chair and having a detachable grip for coupling on a continuously moving cable. In the terminals the carriage is uncoupled from the cable and it runs on a transfer rail. This transfer rail is equipped with friction drive wheels disposed along the carriage travel path for engaging the friction face of a running plate rigidly secured to the carriage so as to brake, accelerate or drive the carriage on the rail. During the night or bad weather periods a cover plate covers the friction face of the carriages disposed on the line and this cover plate is raised away in the terminals to clear the friction face. For removing the snow or ice which covers the friction face and hinders the correct friction drive of the carriage a brushing or rubbing device may be disposed along the carriage travel path so as to brush the friction face.

Abstract: A material handling system of the monorail and crane type is adaptable to carry relatively heavy loads and light loads through convenient structural modification using common component parts. The system is comprised of a double track 40 for heavy loads, formed of two track parts 54, 55 that alone are suitable for light-load applications. Carriers 42, 204 are comprised of drive heads 74 and idler heads 78, each with a single load support wheel 70, 71 or 70', 71'. A drive head 74, 74' and an idler head 78, 78' can be releasably interconnected in tandem by a load bar 206 to run along a single track, or in face-to-face opposition with wheels 70, 71 coaxial to form a drive unit 44 adapted to run along a double track. In the latter arrangement two additional heads, such as two idler heads 78b, 78c, are also interconnected in face-to-face opposition to form an idler unit 46 and connected in tandem with the drive unit 44 by a load bar 52.

  • Patent number: 4520733
Abstract: A guide rail and follower wheel construction for a monorail are disclosed. The monorail vehicle follower wheel has a radially directed, circumferential groove shaped to fit over a raised track portion, and the cross sectional shape of the wheel groove and the track over which it fits are such that the uppermost portion of the track contacts the radially innermost portion of the wheel groove. The wheel is mounted on the system comprising: a shaft and wheel includes opposed side-plates mounted for rotation on the shaft and a center disc mounted on the shaft between the side-plates and having a diameter less than that of the side-plates so as to form the groove. The side-plates are shaped to taper in diameter towards the center disc so that the uppermost track portion contacts only the disc. The side plates are rotatable on the shaft independently of the disc.

  • Patent number: 4369714
Abstract: A cable car type vehicle arrester features a pair of trumpet bars which are interconnected by a link which either maintains the distance between the bars constant or reduces same upon one of the bars being deflected outboard of its home or rest position. This reduces the free swinging time of the vehicle between bars and increases the distance through which the bars subsequent to the initial deflection are deflectable by the vehicle. This accordingly increases the stroke of shock absorbers associated with the bars increasing the conversion of the kinetic energy of the vehicle. Casters can be provided to support the bars to allow longer lighter bars with less robust bearing and structural members. The casters can be run on a corrugated surface to cam the bars vertically further increasing the kinetic energy conversion and endow a self-centering action on the arrester.
