Bentonite Patents (Class 106/DIG4)
  • Patent number: 4435263
Abstract: A magnesium anode backfill composition is prepared by mixing calcium sulfite, bentonite, and at least one compound selected from the group comprising sodium alkylates and sodium dialkyldithiocarbamates, wherein said bentonite contains a substantial amount of alkaline earth metal bentonite, such as calcium-bentonite.

  • Patent number: 4427517
Abstract: A mixture of CaSO.sub.3 and bentonite, where the bentonite contains a substantial amount of alkaline earth metal bentonite, e.g., Ca-bentonite, is useful as a backfill composition for underground magnesium galvanic anodes. The backfill may optionally, and beneficially, contain sodium sulfite.

  • Patent number: 4357167
Abstract: A quick setting cementitious composition with good early strength characteristics contains, by volume, 1-30% of a cement mixture including Portland Cement, calcium aluminate and calcium sulphate, 0.001-5% of clay and water in excess of 65%. The composition is especially suited for filling cavities in underground mines, for the construction of roadside packs, and the various components of the composition can be separately pumped or otherwise conveyed to the cavity.

  • Patent number: 4279547
Abstract: A bentonite composition useful for preventing a flow of water through a structure is disclosed. The composition has substantially all of the bentonite in non-hydrated form by dispersing the bentonite throughout a non-aqueous gel formed from a non-aqueous liquid and a suitable gelling agent for the liquid to form a cohesive mass capable of adhering to a structure while maintaining a desired, cohesive form. The composition can be made into sheets, rods, tubes and the like. For example, the composition can be applied to one side of a water permeable cellulosic fiber containing sheet and the composition side of the sheet secured over an area of potential water flow.

  • Patent number: 3991247
Abstract: Improved non-flammable, rewettable pipe lagging material is formed from woven glass fabric which has been impregnated and coated with an adhesive formulation composed of Western Bentonite clay, kaolin, sodium hexametaphosphate, and water. The woven glass fabric is initially heat treated so as to thermally desize the fabric and remove initial oil and starch sizing present on the glass yarn from which fabric is made. The fabric is then contacted with the adhesive formulation and dried to form a rewettable cloth material which is white in color having a smooth surface.
