Inside Of Hollow Work Patents (Class 118/317)
  • Patent number: 6171398
Abstract: An apparatus for coating an interior surface of a conduit. The apparatus has a center rod with a substantially square cross-section that extends axially along the interior surface of the conduit. An index carriage slidably engages the substantially square cross-section of the center rod so that the index carriage maintains a fixed rotational orientation relative to the center rod. An index motor having a variable index position is carried by the index carriage. A coating device for coating the interior surface of the conduit is rotatably attached to the index carriage and connected to the index motor. As such, the coating device has an elevation position that corresponds to the index position of the index motor. A drive motor carried by a drive carriage propels the drive carriage longitudinally along the center rod.

  • Patent number: 6146695
Abstract: The invention relates to a continuous protective film, consisting of a thermoplastic synthetic material, which is applied to the inner side of the longitudinal weld of sheet metal pipes which are supplied end to end across the welding arm of a welding machine and an adjacent applicator arm. The thermoplastic synthetic material is continuously melted and applied using an applicator nozzle across at least the entire width of the weld. The thermoplastic synthetic material fed continuously is preheated, melted and conveyed to the applicator nozzle in a homogeneous liquid state. The discharge opening of the nozzle is subsequently guided at an adjustable constant distance from the inner side of the longitudinal weld of the sheet metal pipes, and the liquid synthetic material is applied in metered quantities. The melting apparatus for carrying out the process comprises means for guiding the discharge opening of the applicator nozzle. The means are, for example, a follow up roller, a sliding block, or a probe.

  • Patent number: 5935657
Abstract: A multiple nozzle paint spraying system two separate banks of spray nozzles. One of the banks is vertically disposed, and the other bank is adjustable to be positioned either vertically or horizontally, the adjustable bank being positioned above the vertical bank. Both banks are supplied by paint from an airless pressurized source, and each individual bank has a shut-off valve to stop the flow of pressurized paint to that respective bank. The entire assembly is mounted on a rollable stand which has a pair of arms extending laterally outward. Wheels or castors are located at the end of the lateral arms which abut the base board or bottom of the wall being painted. During use, the painter merely activates the paint spray and pushes the apparatus along the wall. The lateral arms maintain the spray nozzles at a fixed distance from the wall, and a coat of paint can applied to the wall uniformly and quickly. When painting a wall, the adjustable bank is positioned vertically and both banks are used.

Abstract: The method of treating the surfaces of malleable light metal cylinder bores or other objects by blasting the surfaces with extremely high water jets for preparing such surfaces for subsequent coating with wear-resistant materials such as a thermal spray coating. The water not only cleans the surface but roughens it to produce a pitted surface with undercuts so that coating material fills the pits and undercuts to provide a smooth layer of coating material with a strong mechanical/adhesive bond.

  • Patent number: 5620520
Abstract: An apparatus for coating internally threaded fasteners, particularly closed end fasteners, such as flanged weld nuts, which includes a powder spray arrangement, has a spray nozzle within a spray cylinder. The spray nozzle arrangement is actuated by an air cylinder to be in abutting relationship with a fastener seated in the spray position. The spray nozzle is tapped for the supply of air and for the supply of powder to the fastener threads. The spray block on which the nut is sprayed has a vacuum line that exhausts excess powder that does not adhere to the threads.

  • Patent number: 5601051
Abstract: Refractory material is applied to the interior surface of a vessel by advancing a boom carriage on a frame positioned externally of the vessel through an opening in the vessel. The boom carriage supports a collapsed telescoping mast and a nozzle boom. The carriage supporting the mast and nozzle boom is advanced through the opening to an elevated position within the vessel. At the end of travel of the boom carriage, the telescoping mast is pivoted through approximately 90.degree. to a vertical position and the nozzle boom is pivoted to a position perpendicular to the mast. The mast is progressively extended as the nozzle boom is rotated and refractory material is sprayed from a nozzle assembly on the end of the boom onto the vessel interior surface. The nozzle boom is transversely and pivotally movable on the mast to adjust the position of the nozzle assembly to follow the irregular contour on the interior surface as the mast is telescopically advanced or retracted.

Abstract: An apparatus is provided according to the present invention for applying a glue bead to a round and non-round container to seal a fitment therein. The container includes a side wall formed about a longitudinal axis and having a closed end and an open end. The apparatus includes a base for holding the container in a fitment applying position and a hot melt glue gun for applying a layer of glue about an interior perimeter of the container to form an adhesion region. The adhesion region extends about the interior of the side walls immediately adjacent the open end thereof. The glue gun is suspended from a rotary bearing assembly which drives the gun about a longitudinal axis of the container as glue is sprayed thereon. A drive pulley, connected to the gun, is remotely driven via a belt and shaft arrangement by an electric motor.

Abstract: Machine and method for applying an anaerobic sealant and locking material into a workpiece bore in which an outwardly flaring cup mounted onto a rotatable anaerobic material reservoir and spin cup drive having a truncated conical wall with openings therein to feed the anaerobic material into the flaring spin cup in response to the centrifugals on the material as the reservoir and spin cup is rotatably driven. The anaerobic material will be spun from the cup in a controlled manner so that an annular layer of anaerobic material is applied onto the bore wall. A closure member can be subsequently inserted into the bore being sealed and permanently retained therein by the material. • Patent number: 5529809
Abstract: A metal spray apparatus is provided with a supersonic nozzle. Molten metal is injected into a gas stream flowing through the nozzle under pressure. By varying the pressure of the injected metal, the droplet can be made in various selected sizes with each selected size having a high degree of size uniformity. A unique one piece graphite heater provides easily controlled uniformity of temperature in the nozzle and an attached tundish which holds the pressurized molten metal. A unique U-shaped gas heater provides extremely hot inlet gas temperatures to the nozzle. A particularly useful application of the spray apparatus is coating of threads of a fastener with a shape memory alloy. This permits a fastener to be easily inserted and removed but provides for a secure locking of the fastener in high temperature environments.

  • Patent number: 5468295
Abstract: A method of thermal spray coating a surface with a metal coating material includes the provision of a nozzle about a thermal spray coating apparatus, such as a two wire electric-arc apparatus. The nozzle includes a plurality of ports facing generally radially inwardly towards a coating material particle stream, such as an atomized molten metal stream of a two-wire arc thermal spray apparatus. The ports sequentially receive a deflecting gas flow, such that the direction moves circumferentially about the axis of the particle stream. The deflecting gas entrains the coating material and carries it radially to the surface of the part to be coated or the nozzle assembly. By utilizing a plurality of valve ports, one simplifies the assembly over prior art systems which have rotated the part to be coated. In one embodiment of this invention, a valve disk selectively communicates a compressed gas to the ports sequentially.
