Wire And Cord (immersion) Patents (Class 118/DIG19)
  • Patent number: 4205515
Abstract: For powder filling of cables, in a fluidized powder bed, it has been proposed to pass the cable core through the bed in a substantially closed condition. There is a limit to the number of conductors a core can have for effective filling. In the present invention the cable core is opened up into a number of core units by passing through an opening member. The opening member is freely ridable on the cable core and has a hole for each unit. The opener is held against a support member and an air bearing formed between the two members. Air is also usually fed to the holes in the opener member through which the core units pass to prevent flow of powder out from the bed. The opening member can be positioned in the fluidized bed or outside immediately prior to passage of the cable core through the bed. The units are each in a substantially closed condition in the bed and the units close to a single core also in the bed.

  • Patent number: 4190017
Abstract: A tank furnace comprises a first container containing a molten flux and connected with a hoisting mechanism, and a second container containing a molten coating metal. The second container is stationary mounted so as to be placed inside the first container when in its upper position. The mechanism for advancing articles into the coating zone is connected with a device for controlling the depth of immersion of the articles being coated. The first container is fitted with electrodes.

  • Patent number: 4169174
Abstract: Flexible core such as rubber rod useful as an internal mandrel in the construction of tubular articles, such as hose, is coated with a liquid lubricant substantially undiluted with solvent, and excess lubricant is removed using high pressure liquid spray jets impacting the core angularly and countercurrent to the direction of movement of the mandrel.

  • Patent number: 4102300
Abstract: A metal wire to be coated with thermoplastic material is advanced at high speed, e.g. of 100 meters per minute, through a codirectionally moving mass of thermoplastic particles after having been heated to a temperature high enough to cause adhesion of these particles to the wire. The mass is mechanically entrained in a treatment chamber by an endless belt or the like at a speed close enough to that of the wire to hold the velocity difference therebetween below a threshold value, such as 30 meters per minute, above which an abrasive effect sets in which tends to detach already adhering particles from the wire. Upon exiting from the treatment chamber, the wire is reheated to fuse these particles into a continuous envelope and is then subjected to an electrostatic flocking operation for studding the envelope with radially projecting cellulosic fibers forming a velvety coating thereon.

  • Patent number: 4091827
Abstract: An apparatus for edulcorating a wire coil with an edulcoration fluid is provided which has a movable cart with an upright support and a plurality of horizontal, rotatable flanged shafts for supporting and rotating the wire coil, these shafts being mounted on the upright. A hollow pipe with outlets is positioned beneath the rotatable shafts on the upright to provide edulcoration fluid against the inside of a coil on the shafts, and a plurality of hollow pipes with outlets, also connected to the upright, are positioned above the rotatable shafts for providing edulcoration fluid against the outside of the coil on the shafts. The flanges on each of the shafts are at an angle to the axis of the respective shaft and are positioned in a special spaced relationship with regard to the flanges on the adjacent rotatable shaft.

  • Patent number: 3972304
Abstract: In a device for filling the interstices of the multi-stranded core of a cable, a die freely rotatable about an axis and having a plurality of passages opening from each end of the die, the passages being arranged in a cylindrical locus about the rotational axis of the die. The device itself consists of a housing defining a chamber holding filler material through which the core passes, one end of the housing being closed by the die and the other end of the housing having an aperture axially aligned with the die.
