  • Patent number: 8528510
Abstract: An intake assembly for a 3-cylinder, V-configured engine comprises an intake manifold configured to conduct combustion air to a first, two-cylinder, cylinder head housing assembly and a second, single-cylinder, cylinder head housing assembly. A centrally extending plenum defines a plenum axis. A first plurality of intake runners, in fluid communication with the plenum, extend from a front side and transition through a circumferential arc around an upper side to deliver combustion air to, the first, two-cylinder, cylinder head housing assembly. A single intake runner, in fluid communication with the centrally extending plenum, extends from a rear side and transitions through a circumferential arc around the upper side to deliver combustion air to, the second, single-cylinder, cylinder head housing assembly. A zip tube delivers combustion air to the central plenum at a location that is between one of the first plurality of intake runners and the single cylinder intake runner.

  • Patent number: 7296563
Abstract: An internal combustion engine intake device is configured to suppress the occurrence of freezing in a portion thereof where blow-by gas or another gas is introduced into an intake passage. The intake device basically has a throttle chamber, an intake air collector, an air induction pipe, a partitioning part, a gas introducing pipe and a volume chamber. The air induction pipe is provided between the throttle valve and the intake air collector. The partitioning part divides the space inside the air induction pipe into first and second air induction spaces. The gas introducing pipe introduces the blow-by gas into the first and second air induction spaces directly. The blow-by gas contains moisture and has a higher temperature than the fresh air in the first and second air induction spaces. The volume chamber is arranged between the gas introducing pipe and the first and second air induction spaces.

  • Patent number: 7089921
Abstract: An intake manifold (1) of a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine comprises a single pipe portion (4), a collector (5) connected to the pipe portion (4), and a plurality of branch pipes (6) branching from the collector (5) to each cylinder. The pipe portion (4) and the collector (5) divided into a plurality of spaces (1a, 1b) by a partitioning member (12). Blow-by gas is equally distributed to each cylinder using a simple structure comprising a discharge vent (3) for blow-by gas in the pipe portion (4) extending over the partitioning member (12) and being equal to the two spaces (1a, 1b). It is preferred that a notch (8) is formed facing the discharge vent (3) on the partitioning member (12).

  • Patent number: 6928980
Abstract: A control device switches an engine between normal operation mode and special operation mode. In the normal operation mode, an independent cylinder configuration is formed to produce combustion independently in individual cylinders. In the special operation mode, a two-cylinder interconnect configuration is formed so that burned gas discharged from preceding cylinders currently in an exhaust stroke is introduced into following cylinders currently in an intake stroke through intercylinder gas channels, a lean mixture having a high air-fuel ratio is combusted in the preceding cylinders, and a mixture produced by supplying fuel to the burned gas is combusted in the following cylinders.

  • Patent number: 6832597
Abstract: A sub collector is connected to a main collector disposed downstream of a throttle valve in an intake passage and a control valve for collector capacity disposed between the two collectors controls connection therebetween. A difference in pressure between the two collectors is reduced when a condition that pressure in the sub collector is lower than a predetermined value in relation to pressure in the main collector occurs. Namely, the control valve is forcibly opened at a point from a fully closed position of the throttle valve to acceleration operation thereof.

  • Patent number: 6805087
Abstract: An air intake structure of an engine has a first intake air passage and a second intake air passage provided independently and having downstream end portions branched into a plurality of intake ducts connected to a plurality of cylinders of the engine. The neighborhood of the downstream end portion of the first intake air passage and the neighborhood of the down stream end portion of the second intake air passage can be brought into communication by a first communication element. The first intake air passage and the second intake air passage are rendered communicable by a second communication element upstream from the first communication element in the flowing direction of intake air. The first communication element and the second communication element are controlled in accordance with the operating state of the engine.
