Abstract: A snorkel clip made up of two substantially rigid elements, which are designed to wrap at least half way around a snorkel tube, overmolded with a substantially flexible element to create a simple, aesthetically pleasing device. The snorkel clip also includes a hinge region created as part of the substantially flexible element. This hinge region allows the snorkel clip to flex or bend so that one of the rigid elements may be disengaged and pulled away from the riser tube of the snorkel, so that a mask strap may be attached to and removed from the snorkel, while the other rigid element remains attached to the riser tube in a generally secure manner. The substantially flexible portion may also include several cut out sections to provide visual and tactile access to portions of the substantially rigid elements for utility and aesthetic design.

Abstract: A tubular body is operatively coupled to an oral nasal mask and provided with lateral apertures adapted for fluid flow. A flexible valve is mounted onto one end of the tubular body and adapted to seal the lateral apertures under normal operation conditions and expose the lateral apertures for fluid flow during emergency operation conditions. The sealed lateral apertures keep exhaust gases from escaping the oral nasal mask and contaminating the interior of the diving equipment during normal operation conditions. The exposed lateral apertures allow air from an alternate source to reach the mouth and nose of a user covered by the oral nasal mask during emergency operation conditions. The exposed lateral apertures allow excess water to be removed from inside the diving equipment. The valve system may be implemented as an integrated regulator mount nut/valve system.

  • Patent number: 7793656
Abstract: A swim and skin-dive snorkel for providing positive end-expiratory pressure for pressure-balanced exhalation. The snorkel may include inhalation and exhalation conduits. Air can be exhaled into a chamber and released when exhalation pressure within the chamber exceeds a threshold pressure. The threshold pressure that must be overcome to achieve exhalation may be balanced against the compressive forces of the ambient water pressure acting against the user's chest and lungs, which may greatly reduce the resting expiratory flow rate, the minute respiratory rate, and therefore the overall work of breathing. The exhalation pressure may be linearly matched to the ambient water pressure as a function of dive depth, thereby discouraging exhalation while diving. A purge valve may also be placed at the lower aspect of the snorkel.

  • Patent number: 7222621
Abstract: The invention relates to a “breathing tube fastening structure”, mainly comprising a fastener, buckle, pipe hoop, snatch-hook and snatch-hook stand and snatch-hook stand. The invention is fixed on the exterior of the lateral side of a head strap. The characteristics of the invention include that the fastener has two knobs formed on both lateral sides, both are correspondently disposed in two round holes and a coupling portion, the snatch-hook has one end thereof recessed with two projections extended to lock inside two round holes on the surface of the snatch-hook, an opening form extend two hook portions and pierced through a hooking groove disposed on the surface of the snatch-hook stand, moreover, a round grip portion of the pipe hoop is locked into a sliding groove of the snatch-hook stand, thereby enabling the pipe hoop to revolve. When a breathing pipe is sleeved in the pipe hoop, the fastener loosens the pipe hoop, thereby enabling the breathing pipe to shift up or down.

Abstract: A splash protector mounted at top of snorkel is disclosed and includes a tube-shaped adapter unit secured to the snorkel and including a passage; a float unit pivotably secured to the adapter unit and including a projected lever and two upper engagement members (e.g., tabs) at two sides of the lever; a closure unit pivotably secured to the adapter unit and including two mating engagement members (e.g., indents) at both sides, and a closure member adapted to close the passage when the lever pivots upward; and a splash guard secured to the adapter unit for receiving both the float and closure units and including windows for fluid communication. The engagement members are adapted to lockingly engage with the mating engagement members for stopping the closure unit from further pivoting upward and thus preventing the passage from being closed by the closure member undesirably.

  • Patent number: 7159528
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus and methods for a plurality of users to work and/or play underwater with a supply of breathable air. The breathable air is taken from the atmosphere above the surface of the water. The air is sent to one or two submerged users. The apparatus and its components are enclosed in a water resistant enclosure encapsulated by an inner tube which floats on the surface of the water. The apparatus provides breathable air to one or two users from a flexible air supply line, which runs from the apparatus to each submerged user. The air pumps of the apparatus push a constant flow of breathable air to each user. Each user inhales air from the apparatus with a mouth piece that is connected to the air supply line which is connected to the air pumps. Equipment such as regulators, tanks or reservoirs are not needed. The apparatus is powered by a dry cell battery and does not require fuel to operate.

  • Patent number: 7156092
Abstract: Provides an emergency air supply system that is worn around the arm, presumably the wrist, and intended for use in air restrictive emergency conditions. Primarily it has been designed for the need to improve safety for water recreation or water sports where an individual is often caught gasping for air. This device is purposely designed to be no more obtrusive than a piece of clothing, such as a bathing suit, or a watch band would be, in order that it does not unduly restrict the water activity or water sport or any other potentially air restrictive activity you may engage in. The design is intended to encourage usage and increase safety, by way of its structural design that uses the strap-band itself as the mechanical structure of the entire mechanism. Thus creating a unique compact design, that is convenient to wear and provides air when you most need it.

  • Patent number: 7111625
Abstract: There is described a demand valve for a breathing apparatus with a “first breath” mechanism, wherein a demand valve is held closed by resiliently latching an operating diaphragm of the valve in a position wherein the valve is closed. The diaphragm is resiliently biased towards opening the valve, and the resilient latch is arranged to exert sufficient force so as not to be overcome by the resilient bias alone, but so as to be overcome by the combination of the resilient bias and a predetermined pressure difference across the diaphragm caused by sub-ambient pressure within the facepiece of the breathing apparatus.

  • Patent number: 7089940
Abstract: A valve device, particularly for a breathing regulator for divers, including an inlet chamber which can be connected to a source of gas under super-atmospheric pressure, and an outlet chamber which is under a regulated pressure. A seating, which is movable under the influence of the super-atmospheric pressure and the regulated pressure, seals between the inlet chamber and the outlet chamber and has a through-passing passageway that interconnects the chambers. Also included is a valve body which is movably arranged in the seating such as to open and close the through-passing passageway in the seating. A servo element exerts on the valve body a force that depends on the position of the movable seating, so that varying force-influence on the valve body from the super-atmospheric pressure will be compensated for by a corresponding varying force from the servo element. This results in an essentially constant valve characteristic, while providing a mechanically simple solution at the same time.

  • Patent number: 7077127
Abstract: The instant invention is a valve for the top end of skin diving snorkels having a conduit with an open end above the water surface, and an underwater end that terminates in a mouthpiece. The mouthpiece provides a flow path between the conduit and the interior of the diver's mouth. The top valve consists of a soft diaphragm mounted on a compound linkage. The linkage is attached to the conduit adjacent the top opening. A float activates the valve linkage whenever the snorkel starts to descend below the water surface. By the time the open end of snorkel is underwater, the linkage has moved the diaphragm over and against the top opening thereby preventing water from entering the conduit.
