  • Patent number: 11413410
Abstract: An aerosol provision system comprises a heating element for generating an aerosol from a source liquid and control circuitry for controlling a supply of electrical power from a power supply to the heating element. The control circuitry is configured to measure an indication of a derivative of an electrical characteristic of the heating element with respect to time. Based on the measured time derivative, the control circuitry is configured to determine whether or not a fault condition has arisen for the electronic aerosol provision system. The overall change in the electrical characteristic for the heating element caused by the localized heating may be small and so difficult to reliably identify, but the rate at which the change occurs can be expected to be relatively high, such that the time derivative of the local characteristic is a more reliable indicator of occurrence of the fault condition.

  • Patent number: 11406129
Abstract: A smoking device comprising a longitudinal shell with a cavity. A channel in the cavity of the longitudinal shell has a longitudinal shape and a peripheral wall, a top, a bottom. The peripheral wall, top, and bottom of the channel define a cavity. The top and bottom of the channel are substantially open. The cavity in the channel comprises a plate with a conductor material implemented on it. The conductor material is connected to an electrical power source. The conductor material generates heat when electrical current flows through it. The open top of the channel meets the outer surface of the shell, and the shell has an opening in its outer surface corresponding to the open top of the channel, thereby allowing ambient air to flow into the cavity in the channel. The peripheral wall of the channel is made of a ceramic material. When electrical current flows through the conductor material, it generates heat and heats air flowing through the cavity in the channel.

  • Patent number: 11265970
Abstract: An aerosol delivery device is provided that comprises a control body and an aerosol source member. The aerosol delivery device includes a resonant transformer comprising a resonant transmitter and a resonant receiver. The aerosol source member includes an inhalable substance medium at least a portion of which is positioned proximate the resonant transmitter. The resonant transmitter is configured to generate an oscillating magnetic field and induce an alternating voltage in the resonant receiver when exposed to the oscillating magnetic field, such that the alternating voltage causes the resonant receiver to generate heat and thereby vaporize components of the inhalable substance medium to produce an aerosol. In some implementations, the resonant receiver comprises part of the control body. In other implementations, the resonant receiver comprises part of the aerosol source member.

  • Patent number: 11259370
Abstract: An aerosol-generating system includes a main body, a cartridge, and a connecting component. The main body includes a main body housing enclosing a power supply. The cartridge includes a cartridge housing enclosing a reservoir of liquid aerosol-forming substrate. The cartridge is releasably connectable to the main body by the connecting component. The connecting component is fixed to the main body housing and is less stiff in at least one direction than the main body housing. The connecting component that is less stiff the main body housing and the cartridge housing can act as a shock absorber when the aerosol-generating system experiences a significant impact, such as when dropped on a surface. This reduces damage to other components of the system and, in particular, may prevent leaks of liquid resulting from damage to the liquid reservoir.
