  • Patent number: 4662405
Abstract: A flexible, very high pressure hose as a flexible conducting member in hydraulic systems. The wall of the hose contains filamentary load-carrying cords which are embedded in two or more layers. The load-carrying cords are combined to form a plurality of strips which cross one another or are braided with one another. The present invention deviates from the heretofore known symmetrical arrangement where the strips of a given layer have the same number of load-carrying cords in both directions, and instead provides an asymmetrical layer construction including strips which in one direction have a different number of load-carrying cords than do the strips which extend in the opposite direction. While the local resistance to pressure remains the same, the advantages of the present invention are distinct improvements, primarily in the flexibility and the service life of the novel hoses.

  • Patent number: 4484024
Abstract: An electrically insulating, overcoated bulky sleeve is disclosed comprising a tubular sleeve prepared from bulky (i.e. low density, high surface area) continuous filament yarns and an overcoating. When an electrical conductor is positioned therewithin, the large surface area of the bulky yarns of the interior of the sleeve provides an intimate fit for an expanded range of conductor diameters. For applications where a void-free impregnation of the sleeve interior between the overcoating and the conductor is desired, the large interior surface area of these sleeves can promote retention of the impregnation composition. The overcoated sleeve can be expandable, deforming to allow pull-back and return or fold-over, and/or conforming to accept transitions in conductor diameter. The overcoated bulky sleeve can be employed in a method for electrically insulating a conductor, which method may further include an interstitial impregnation step.

Abstract: A flexible sleeve type connecting structure, especially for connecting an inlet and/or outlet of a movably supported weigh hopper to other stationary scale components, includes a sleeve (1) made of a flexible webbing. The outer surface of the webbing sleeve (1) is provided with a silicone coating. The inner surface of the webbing coating has bonded thereto a layer or film of silicone by a suitable adhesive. The strands in the webbing extend at about 45.degree. relative to the longitudinal axis of the sleeve for an improved flexibility. Each end of the sleeve has a flange (2, 2') extending radially outwardly and merging into a bulging ring (3, 3') at the radially outer edge of the respective flange. The webbing forms an integral part of the sleeve, of the flanges and of the bulging rings which are received in grooves of respective mounting members (10, 10').

First course A includes a first group 10 of reinforcing strands applied about the tube in a first helical direction and a second group 12 of reinforcing strands applied concurrently about the tube in a second, helically opposite direction in such a manner as to interlace the strands of the said two groups into a conventional braided structure. Adjacent windings 10, 12 of the first and second groups are spaced apart to provide widened braid spaces which reduce crimping of the edge wires in each group as the groups of wires intersect each other. A plurality of empty unoccupied spaces C are formed in braided course A along the length of the tube.
