  • Patent number: 9180504
Abstract: The invention pertains to a device for influencing the temperature distribution over the width of a slab or a strip, particularly in hot strip rolling mill, wherein at least one cooling device is provided that features nozzles for applying a cooling medium, wherein the nozzles are arranged and/or actuated in such a way that the cooling medium is applied, in particular, at positions at which an elevated temperature is determined. The invention furthermore pertains to a device for influencing the state of the surface evenness of the strip by means of strip cooling, wherein the cooling device is controlled in dependence on the state of surface evenness of the strip in such a way that the surface unevenness is reduced or eliminated. In addition, this invention makes it possible to purposefully influence the strip contour, wherein the strip or the slab is cooled widthwise in such a way that the strip contour approximates a desired target contour more closely.

  • Patent number: 8893402
Abstract: A method for controlling the atmosphere in a protective gas chamber for the continuous treatment of metal strips. A metal strip is guided into and out of the protective gas chamber via locks. At least one lock has at least two sealing elements for the metal strip which runs through it, with the result that a sealed chamber is formed between the two sealing elements. The gas pressure (P2, PD) is measured in the protective gas chamber and in the sealed chamber of the lock and the pressure (PD) in the sealed chamber is regulated, to be precise in such a way that, during operation, the differential pressure between the protective gas chamber and the sealed chamber is kept as far as possible to an optimum value.

  • Patent number: 7320178
Abstract: A standoff for a cold plate and a cold plate using the standoff are characterized by a coil pack consisting of a plurality of individual fluid conveying tubes formed into a coil pack having a desired configuration and held in place by a plurality of retaining wires. The standoffs are slidably attached to the retaining wires and each comprises an elongate body that is triangular in cross-section, has a bottom end, an apex end opposite from the bottom end and a longitudinal bore toward the bottom end and through which a retaining wire extends. The standoffs are made of aluminum and are of sufficient size to maintain their structural integrity during a casting process in which the coil pack is placed in a mold and molten aluminum is poured around the coil pack.

  • Patent number: 6227029
Abstract: Base plates for magnetic data tape cartridges, are initially formed from roll stock of sheet material and are processed to form apertures to receive press-fitting tape guides and pins. The base plates are stacked in orientations that inhibit alignment of apertures, and the stack of base plates is heated at elevated temperature for a substantial time interval while simultaneously being pressed between plane parallel dies to relieve internal stresses and assure planarity within close tolerance limits of the base plates and the regions around the apertures.

  • Patent number: 6077370
Abstract: Monolithic metal oxide structures, and processes for making such structures, are disclosed. The structures are obtained by heating a metal-containing structure having a plurality of surfaces in close proximity to one another in an oxidative atmosphere at a temperature below the melting point of the metal while maintaining the close proximity of the metal surfaces. Exemplary structures of the invention include open-celled and closed-cell monolithic metal oxide structures comprising a plurality of adjacent bonded corrugated and/or flat layers, and metal oxide filters obtained from a plurality of metal filaments oxidized in close proximity to one another.

  • Patent number: 6033494
Abstract: A method of blackening a magnetic shield for use in a color CRT (Cathode Ray Tube) is disclosed. A plurality of magnetic shield members are stacked with clamps inserted in their holes beforehand or with the intermediary of cut and raised portions or lugs thereof. Therefore, efficient work is promoted in relation to a blackening furnace and other facilities, work space, the number of steps of forming a blackening film, etc. In addition, oxygen flows evenly between the adjacent shield members, forming blackening films of high quality.

  • Patent number: 5186764
Abstract: A method of treating apertured plates with a gaseous medium, e.g. to produce a nitride surface layer thereon, by placing the plates in rows in a furnace and causing the gaseous medium to flow across the surfaces of the plates by circulating the medium through the furnace and deflecting the medium as it flows along the furnace walls away from the walls to give a substantially uniform flow of gas across the plate surfaces.
