According to the method, an ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber (EPDM) material sheet is provided and a thermoplastic polyolefin (TPO) material sheet is extruded onto the EPDM material sheet. The EPDM material sheet and TPO material sheet are then pressed together via one or more rollers. The EPDM material is uncured and has a thickness of between about 50 mils and 70 mils. The extruded TPO sheet has a temperature of at least 150 degrees Celsius and a thickness of between about 15 mils and 35 mils. The heat of the TPO material sheet causes a top portion of the EPDM material sheet to cure such that crosslinking of the TPO and EPDM material sheets occurs at an interface of the sheets to bond the sheets together.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a powder-coated glass product. The method comprises depositing thermosetting powder on the upper most first surface of the glass substrate and curing the thermosetting powder to form a coating on the first surface. The curing step comprises applying heat via infra-red radiation located below the second surface of the glass substrate and via the second surface of the glass substrate. The source of infra-red radiation comprises a box having an internally-reflective surface and a heat-transmissive lid located below the second surface of the glass substrate. At least one infra-red lamp is located within the box to emit the infra-red radiation into the box, and the infra-red radiation emitted into the box heats the air within the box for conduction of heat from the air through the lid to the second surface across the gap between the lid and the second surface of the glass substrate.

Abstract: A method for adhering a major substrate to which nano sized concave and convex structures are formed without damaging the concave and convex structures can be used in a production method of a microfluidic device including nano sized fluidic channels. The substrates may be adhered under heat free and adhesive agent free environment by exciting the substrate surface including hard silicone resin with atmospheric plasma or vacuum ultraviolet light, then juxtaposing and pressurizing the surface of the hard silicone resin substrate and glass substrate. The silicone rubber composition is applied on the contact face of the cover substrate and then the silicone rubber composition is cured to form the silicone rubber layer and then the ultraviolet light is exposed under the condition that the surface of the major substrate being formed with concave and convex structures is contacted closely to the silicone rubber layer of the cover substrate.

Abstract: There are provided a method for manufacturing a surface-modified fluororesin film capable of long-term inventory storage, a method for manufacturing a rubber composite composed of the surface-modified fluororesin film and rubber bonded together, and a rubber product for medical use made of the rubber composite. The method for manufacturing a surface-modified fluororesin film comprises the step of performing surface roughening on a fluororesin film RF by applying an ion beam from an anode layer ion source to the surface of the fluororesin film RF. A rubber is placed over the roughened surface of the thusly produced surface-modified fluororesin film, and, through vulcanization molding process, the surface-modified fluororesin film and the tuber can be firmly bonded to each other.

  • Patent number: 8293061
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for bonding two surfaces to one another. The invention particularly pertains to the use of such method in which one of the surfaces is a polymeric plastic (and more preferably a polymeric thermoplastic (especially poly-(methyl methacrylate) (“PMMA”) or cyclic olefin copolymer (“COC”)). More particularly, the invention relates to treating at least one of the contacting surfaces with UV in the presence of oxygen to thereby generate ozone (O3) and atomic oxygen under conditions of temperature below that of the glass transition temperature of the polymeric plastic. The UV/O3-mediated bonding results in high bond strength and zero-deformation method. This bonding method can be applied to micro/nano-scale polymer devices, and particularly to microfluidic devices, for a low cost, high throughput, high yield advantage.
