Publication number: 20100233417Abstract: The invention provides a knitted spacer fabric having a tightly knitted bottom layer, a more loosely knitted upper layer and pile yarns extending across the space between the lower and upper faces. Settable material, e.g. cement, is introduced into the space between the upper and lower faces and can be caused to set by the addition of a liquid, e.g. water. Until set, the fabric is flexible and can be shaped but after the material in space has set, the fabric is rigid and can be used as a structural element in a wide range of situations, e.g. to form a cover of a prefabricated shelter, a track-way for vehicles, pedestrians or animals; a shelter by applying the fabric to a framework; formwork for casting concrete; barriers, e.g. to line tunnels; to repair structures, e.g. roofs; to form floors or damp proof structures; to reinforce earth structures, e.g. river banks; to provide flood defences; or to repair existing pipes, including buried water pipes or to construct new pipes.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 14, 2007Publication date: September 16, 2010Applicant: CONCRETE CANVAS LIMITEDInventors: Peter Brewin, William Crawford

Patent number: 7722735Abstract: A method is described for forming a porous coating on the surface of a substrate such as an implantable prosthesis wherein a microstructure appliqué is made in the shape and depth of the area to be coated, adhesively attached to that area and subsequently bonded to the substrate through the application of an appropriate sintering treatment. Manufacture of the microstructure appliqué is accomplished through the transfer and deposition of one or more packed layers of uniformly-sized, metallic particles onto a shaped pattern followed by the addition of a binder solution for preserving the packing of particles and the integrity of the shaped piece. The method disclosed herein provides a means of making uniform and reproducible structures possessing uniform porosity and is adaptable to automation for producing larger quantities of appliqués, which may help in reducing costs associated with prosthetic implant production.Type: GrantFiled: April 6, 2007Date of Patent: May 25, 2010Assignee: C3 Materials Corp.Inventor: John B. Publication number: 20100066121Abstract: An improved acoustically and thermally insulating composite material suitable for use in structures such as buildings, appliances, and the interior passenger compartments and exterior components of automotive vehicles, comprising at least one airlaid fibrous layer of controlled density and composition and incorporating suitable binding agents and additives as needed to meet expectations for noise abatement, fire, and mildew resistance. Separately, an airlaid structure which provides a reduced, controlled airflow therethrough useful for acoustic insulation is provided, and which includes a woven or nonwoven scrim.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 31, 2006Publication date: March 18, 2010Inventor: James R.
