Abstract: On a back face of a semiconductor wafer, an annular convex portion is formed at an outer periphery so as to surround a flat concave portion formed by back grinding. The back face of the semiconductor wafer is pressed against an adhesive surface of a supporting adhesive tape joined to a ring frame. Thus, the annular convex portion is joined to the adhesive tape. Further, the adhesive tape is deformed while being pressed from a side of its non-adhesive surface. As a result, the adhesive tape is pushed into and joined to the flat concave portion of the back face of the semiconductor wafer.

Abstract: Presses with heaters, such as mug presses, comprise a thermal sensor which is separated from a heater element by at least one layer of insulation. The thermal sensor is advantageously in electrical communication with the heating element to shut off the heating element when a predetermined temperature is reached. By spacing the thermal sensor from the actual heater, the sensor is insulated from the heater so that the temperature at the sensor will be less than the certain pre-determined temperature at the heater during heating. Accurate control of the heating of the mugs and substrate is achieved in a manner which eliminates the need for separately controlling and/or monitoring the time which the heat is applied.

Abstract: An individually wrapped absorbent article such as a sanitary napkin which is simple, compact, sanitary, and easy to unwrap for use and to dispose of after use. The absorbent article avoids the need for a separate peel strip and pouch because it is provided with a wrapper that can be folded into a pouch. Substantially the entire backsheet of the absorbent article directly faces the wrapper and is secured to it to form an assembly. In the case of a winged or tabbed type absorbent article, this configuration obviates the need for a separate peel strip to cover the garment adhesive located on the wings or tabs. The assembly is wrapped by folding the lateral flaps thereof longitudinally over one another to enclose the article to prevent the garment adhesive from becoming contaminated. The package is then tri-folded laterally to form an e-shaped pouch. Wrapping and folding can be performed by an in-line process that uses simple equipment and that does not require reversal in the direction of article conveyance.

There is further proposed a device for banding a textile article with labels, where the article is initially fed into a receiving unit comprising gripper elements, that can be moved one relative to the other, for gripping the article by its two outer lengthwise ends and for stretching the article in its longitudinal direction. The device further comprises a label feeding unit for feeding a label in a direction perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the article to a central area of the article, between its two ends, as well as a device for wrapping the label around the article and for fixing the ends of the label.

Abstract: A coating press for multi-face foil coating of work pieces, includes a work table for receiving work pieces that are to be coated. The work table has a table plate with grid-shaped through holes formed therein and the table plate has a top surface. A bottom press plate is provided for supporting the work table. There is a tray carriage which receives the work table and introduces the work table into the coating press. There are carrier elements having footing faces movably disposed in the through holes. The carrier elements receive and support the work pieces. Each of the carrier elements are reversibly variable in length between an extended position and a non-extended position. The carrier elements fully covered by the work pieces are in the extended position standing on the footing faces on the bottom press plate and extend above the top surface of the table plate for raising the work pieces above a level of the table plate.

Abstract: A film applique tool is disclosed for manually applying a film having an adhesive backing to a surface having protrusions. The tool comprises a tool head having a hollow cylinder for receiving the protrusion, the hollow cylinder being surrounded by an annular surface which is relatively flat and smooth. A handle is provide for manually holding the tool, as well as a switch for connecting the hollow cylinder to a source of fluid under pressure. In operation, tool head is placed over the protrusion so that the hollow cylinder receives at least the protrusion and the film overlying the protrusion and fluid pressure is applied to the film by connecting the hollow cylinder to the source of fluid pressure to stretch and press the film firmly against both the protrusion and an area of the surface surrounding the protrusion to assure that the film is flatly and completely applied at the protrusion and to the surface in the area surrounding the protrusion.

Abstract: An assembly for use in bonding an trim cover to a foam pad along a pair of conveyor line in a process of a plurality of stations. A plurality of tool carriers are transported along each of the conveyor lines to each station. The tool carrier supports at least one mold assembly for bonding an air impervious adhesive film between the cover and the foam pad. A collar assembly pivotally supports a press platen above the mold assembly and provides pivotal movement between an open position spaced at a predetermined angle above the mold assembly and a closed position compressing the foam pad against the trim cover and mold assembly. The tool carrier includes a pair of vacuum inlet connectors for engagement by a vacuum snorkel to provide vacuum pressure to the mold assembly and travel with the tool carrier along the conveyor line between consecutive process stations.

  • Patent number: 6071365
Abstract: Apparatus for and process of folding and securing edges of a relatively large wrap over corresponding edges of a smaller board positioned on and in contact with an adhesively coated surface of the wrap to form a laminated work-piece, the work-piece being moved in a first direction to a first wrapping head having a pair of movable jaws defining a slot. An edge if the sheet extending from the work-piece, is engaged and folded over a corresponding edge of the board and adhesively adheres to the opposite surface of the board. The folded-over edge is then clamped between the jaws of the first wrapping head and carried in that manner in an opposite direction in a parallel but displaced second plane to a similar slot in a second, like, wrapping head. At the latter, the opposite edge of the sheet extending from the work-piece is similarly engaged, folded over and adhered to the board.

  • Patent number: 5972153
Abstract: A method for manufacturing labels and for applying each of the labels to an end wall of a cigarette packet. The method includes separating the labels from a continuous web moving in a horizontal direction with the width of the web parallel to a vertical plane. Only one side of the web is provided with printed areas for a succession of the labels, and severance cuts are provided in the web to form the labels between the areas. Separation of the labels occurs at the cuts. After the labels are separated, they are continuously transported by a suction conveyor belt moving in a vertical plane substantially parallel to the vertical plane of the web. The labels are held separated from each other by negative pressure from the belt which acts on the printed side. Glue is applied to the print-free side of the labels on the belt by a phased and non-contact application of at least on row of successive glue spots extending along the longitudinal dimension of the label. Then the labels are applied to the packets.
