The apparatus includes a cutting unit for cutting at least a polarizing plate of a strip-shaped film, composed of the polarizing plate and a release film bonded to the polarizing plate, leaving the release film uncut, when a forward end side pre-severed end face of the strip-shaped film perpendicular to the longitudinal direction of the strip-shaped film has traveled up to a length corresponding to a length of a substrate, to form a film piece, a release film separating unit for separating the release film from the film piece thus severed, and a bonding unit for bonding the tacky surface of the film piece freed of the release film to a mating position of the substrate so that the forward end side end face of the transported substrate is parallel to the pre-severed end face of the film piece.

  • Patent number: 7533709
Abstract: This invention proposes a new, improved method and apparatus for applying web segments to a traveling web. These web segments, sometimes called ears or wings, may be asymmetrical or otherwise incompatible with the usual slip-and-cut method. The asymmetrical shape may have differing web tensions which can cause the web segments to be improperly engaged with the vacuum holes on an anvil roll. The present invention utilizes both circumferential rows of vacuum holes and an additional pattern of ear retaining vacuum holes. The circumferential rows of vacuum holes are activated consecutively by vacuum commutation, however, the pattern of ear retaining vacuum holes are activated simultaneously to counter the effects of differing web tensions on the ear portions.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming adhesive strips from an adhesive sheet. The apparatus may generally comprise a first forming wheel, a second forming wheel, and a cutting wheel including a plurality of circumferential grooves. The cutting wheel can be positioned in proximity to the first and second forming wheels to define a first formation interface with the first forming wheel and a second formation interface with the second forming wheel. The cutting wheel can be operable to receive at least a portion of the adhesive sheet and rotate to force at least a portion of the adhesive sheet through the first formation interface and the second formation interface such that the adhesive sheet is at least partially cut by at least one of the circumferential grooves at both the first and second formation interfaces to at least partially form the adhesive strips.

  • Patent number: 7503369
Abstract: We have designed a machine for office use called the Electric Paper Reinforcer/Hole Puncher (EPRHP) to protect the printed document. EPRHP is an electric powered device that can automatically apply a clear, ultra thin layer of plastic film on the edge of printed documents to reinforce them, and then punch 3 holes within the plastic film area on these documents. As a result, these 3 holes will be reinforced and prevent the documents from being torn by the rings of the binder. EPRHP can be further used to reinforce large sized printed drawings by applying the plastic film on the edge of drawings. The EPRHP is a portable machine and can be placed on an office desk. EPRHP can turn a document printed on a piece of regular bond paper into a durable document, without deforming the paper appearance or creating any winkles on the paper.
